M11 starter replacement

I finally bit the bullet and had Bernd Ramspeck replace my starter with a new Delco Remy from Cummins.  I had tried all the recommended ideas for starting the M11 without the boost switch.  The techs initially had problems, since the new starter looks different.  It was designed for the IXM, and has a lower rated motor and a more robust planetary gear drive.  For the M!! they had to mount it upside down which created some cabling issues.  In the end they were successful after 4 manhours of work.  The results?  Outstanding, so far.  The engine starts much quicker and without the boost  I am finally happy.

Brett

Hi Bret

Is your new starter a geared-down, the higher speed design? They always seem to sound better.

Yes, Jim, it spins much faster.  It's the only one listed for my ser. no. M11.
