Yes I did it to our 2000 many years ago and it works just great and does give a bit more privacy and possible safety. easy instructions in the article you posted.

The only problem I have with this modification is that the solenoid valve has to stay energized the entire time the coach is in storage.
Would be OK for temporary privacy concerns but would not use it for long term storage.

For storage I would turn the air regulator for the step valve down to zero PSI and raise the step by hand.

You have to remember that once the air pressure drops way down the weight of the step itself usually causes the step tp drop into open mode ie  down.. Only  way I can see you holding it up (closed) would be to use a bungee fastened to rear of step box (inside) and hooking other end to step side bracket.  Air pressure would overcome the bungee but once depleted it would be held up.

When air pressure to step is zero, my step will stay up after being pushed up by hand. There is enough friction to hold the step up, and pulling the step down requires a blade screw driver to get it started.  John, your step must fit perfectly when up, mine does not.
