I bought my 96' U320 from Mel at MOT, and would do it again.

I bought mine off this forum as well. However, it was a cash deal. If the RV is newer and financing likely will be involved due to the higher value of the RV, going through a 3rd party may be worth the commission fee.

Personally, I prefer to BUY private party, for many reasons. But, as a seller of the right condition RV, selling at one of the guys in Nac may yield the most $$ in your pocket.

I think it depends on the situation and the coach.  I don't think FOT takes all year coaches, only newer models (but that may depend on whether you are consigning or trading as I see some older models there occasionally).  MOT, on the other hand, does not appear have that restriction.  You would have to check with Old Town Motorcoach as I don't know that their guidelines are.

Certainly a contributing member is welcome to use the classifieds here if they want to sell privately and technically since they still own the coach, if they are consigning, we don't have an issue with someone posting in the classifieds that their coach is on consignment somewhere.  I would think those who have a real interest in the coach would contact the advertiser for more information, too, so it's not necessary to jump through hoops to place an ad.  Don't feel obligated to meet some other user's idea of what a classified should contain.

It's something we consider ourselves since this definitely isn't our last coach.  We have been on the lookout for the next one for a couple of years now, always staying on top of current options so we can strike while the iron is hot  ;)

Greg,
You are selling a 2008 FT. I believe It will practically sell itself, not to mention it is less than 10 years old which it can be financed. Unless you don't want to deal with it, don't have time and don't mind getting 5 to 10K less for what you can get, if you sell it yourself, then by all means MOT is the place to ask for help. I purchased one from MOT and one from an individual. I sold my 94 by myself. It took 4 months about 20 calls, 30 e-mails, 4 showings (4 Sunday afternoons) when all said and done, I sold it to a very nice couple for a very fair price. Had i took it to a dealer for consignment  ... it was going to stay in their open parking lot & was going to be just another product on a "shelf". I kept mine in her covered parking, nice and clean & I believe everyone come to see it or had talked to me on the phone about it knew that they were dealing with a person who knew the coach and that at the end in my opinion how it got sold. I will always buy a used from an in individual before from any dealer ... at the end of the day, no mater how good or nice they are ... as some one who i respect a lot here in the forum, told me "don't forget they are used vehicle dealers"
Good luck.

Often, full-timers (like us) can't afford to consign their coaches. If we were to decide to sell our coach that way, we'd have to check into an extended-stay hotel for as long as it takes to sell our coach, and then we could buy the replacement.

When we decide to sell, I'll probably advertise it here and make it clear that we are full-timers, so the location of the coach will vary from month to month. Once we have a buyer we'll check into an extended-stay hotel while we shop for the replacement coach.

MOT will trade, granted the trade value will be below what you could you selling it yourself, but back to somewhat offset by the cost of staying outside your coach will you search for its replacement.
I'm a little like DaveM, in that I believe MOT brings a higher sale price which helps offset the cost to consign it at MOT. I bought & sold almost all my toys, and spent 33 years in sales, but I feel the MOT value is worth any small amount of money it might cost me to use their services for the sale of my coach (when that happens.)

BEWARE OF WHERE WE SELL AND BUY OUR MOTORHOMES:

Local R.V. retailer closes, posts phone number to bankruptcy

This is a mess and total loss for many.
Sounds real close to what happened to us when we bought our coach (SOB).
Dealer closed up shop right after we purchased but we did get the title..
Come to find out they had it planned, shoved everything out the door at a really good prices, grabbed the money and split back to India or Pakistan .....leaving everyone without warranties or promised services.
The last few they sold had "repairs" that amounted to "Putting lipstick on a pig", or like the ones sold after ours that had "New roofs".. It was nothing more than Snow Roof for a mobile home slathered on over the old caulk.... sorry state of affairs & I should have visited the BBB ...If I had I would not have purchased... but live & learn

I recently sold my 98 U-320 through RV Trader to a nice couple from Arkansas. W/ in 48 hours I had spoken w/ 4 interested parties and 1 commitment to come see the coach. W/in 8 days it was done and I got what I was asking for it. I think it boils down to presentation. I had good photos and a good write-up about its features and history. The coach was immaculate and I earned the buyers trust with truthful disclosure of its history and any problems.  So, I had a very good experience  as a private seller.

TransWest where Brad Nerhus works may have a big problem.

Colorado dealer accused of selling RVs in California | RV Daily Report |...

Transwest also sells Foretravels.

And some buyers may be in for a California sales tax surprise. . .
Just seems we have to be so careful when making a purchase.

I paid the sales tax on my used unit purchased from trans west through brad personally at the DMV.

My expert buddy owner in the Rv biz and I both learned that larceny makes deals.

Better model for a lower price models price and no tax was generally a deal.
