Rear Engine Seal on a 95 U280 w/ 8.3 - 300 hp Cummins

We have been babying this seal from a minor leak to one that has to be fixed.
It only leaks at low idle when the oil pressure drops to 20 psi, which is every time you pull up to a traffic lite.
Has anyone had a recent experience with this repair.  I saw some on the forum that were around the $1500 mark, but were quite old reports.
This engine has 100k on it so lots of life left in her.
