UVW of a 1993 U280 40'

Been searching everywhere I can to find my Unladen Vehicle Weight (UVW). Registration is asking for it and there is no placard listing it. Would the factory have this or can I find it somewhere on the coach? Only GVWR is listed on the plate.

This happened when I registered my last used rv. After a little advice from the clerk helping me, I just put down a random, believable number. Nobody ever questioned it or wanted verification.

X2. Tell them all the factory provided on a 1993 Foretravel coach was GVWR. Perhaps take a photo of the factory data plate and show it to them. If they insist on a "official" UVW number, your only hope is to call FOT and see if they can provide something.

The wall plaque lists the gvwr and the net weight of the liquids I think.

Subtracting them should get the UVW?

Or weigh the empty coach.

I assume the tags are based on the actual empty weight

Bob,

There is nothing about liquids on my data plate, and I assume the other Chuck has the same info on his coach (only 14 build numbers apart). All the factory gave us was the GVWR. I guess they didn't worry so much about that other stuff in those days.

I think the way all the weights and numbers are now listed, changed from the way it was required back 23 years ago. Show them the photo of the plate on the coach.

How about a simple run by the CAT scale, and take that certificate in? I know I was required to have a weight certificate to trade in my U225, 1993, for FOT to do the paperwork for the buyer. In addition, I was buying an out of state coach, and FOT had their driver take us to the local CAT scale for a current certificate, and inspection.

South Dakota bases the tax on the empty weight of the vehicle and requires some sort of proof of that when registering for the first time. We ran into that a year ago when we moved to SD. Shortly after we got our coach I weighed it with full propane, water, and diesel, and had the scale slip for that, so that's the weight that SD used for us.

Just GVWR. Newer coaches had a white sticker with the NCC and UVW.

I know you have the coach for sale and so this information may not matter, but for others paying tax on the empty weight of the vehicle, the following information may be useful to avoid paying more than is required. From FMCA I found the following:

UVW (unloaded vehicle weight): the weight of the motorhome as built at the factory with full fuel, engine oil and coolants. The UVW does NOT include cargo, fresh water, LP gas, occupants or dealer-installed accessories.

Note that UVW is defined as leaving the factory with full fuel, oil and coolants.

The UVW does not include the weight of any dealer-installed accessories.

Thanks, David. Unfortunately, SD requires some sort of proof of the weight, so telling them that the weight slip also includes 105 gallons of water and 64 gallons of propane plus my weight wouldn't matter much. All of that probably wouldn't take 1500 pounds off, and I doubt that the difference in tax would be much, so I'm not going to do much more about it.

I can get and print the specs for the Airstream which includes the official empty weight, so that should be good.
