Dometic 1282 Refrigerator

I have just de-winterized my 2001 U320 with a Dometic 1282 refrigerator and it will only run on gas and not shore power or the generator.  The plug inside the outside hatch has power and the plug is clean.  Any thoughts??

Double check the circuit breaker at the front end of the bed.

Are you suggesting checking the 120 Volt breakers? Why? They have already verified 120 Volts at the receptacle into which the refrigerator is plugged.

Thanks Roger,
No go.  I tripped and reset the breaker with no change.
I checked the power supply on the outside under the vented cover and I have power at the receptical???

In the 2001 U320 there are two 120v duplex outlets inside the vent panel behind the refrigerator. One on circuit 3 is powered by the inverter, generator or land line and the other outlet on circuit 1, by land line or generator only. Speedbird1 didn't say which one he checked.  The ice maker is generally plugged into Circuit 3.  If the transfer switches didn't kick in or The Circuit 1 breaker is tripped,  Circuit 3 will show 120v but the refrigerator on Circuit 1 will not run on land line or generator.  The breakers are on different panels. Common sense suggests start with the obvious. Mr Osborn's coach may be different.

Doesn't solve your problem but according to John(?) the inventor of the ARPrv | ARP Control | RV Refrigerator | Dometic Recall | Norcold Recall | RV... absorption refrigerators are much more efficient on gas than on electric. The tiny electric heater used to heat the ammonia can't compare to the heat the propane puts out. I've switched to only using propane unless I'm low on propane. So you don't need to be in a hurry to fix unless you are low on propane. :)

I think there some fuses under the cover of the control board in the back the frig might check them

The next thing I would check is the heater element.  I've had two go bad over the years.  It is stuck into a pipe along the side of the vertical coolant tube above the propane heater.  Usually when if goes bad, the heater element welds itself into the tube.  There is usually a spare empty tube to put a new heater element into.  You can pull the element wires off the control board and for 120V there and check element resistance.

OK Guys,

Thanks for the various hints.  My day will be full.

I only checked the upper power outlet under the outside cover.  On mine it is White and there is a Black one below it so that will be my next check once I get up and running. Although with the upper White one having power I feel that it is now a refrigerator unit issue??  I have something to do today, whoopee!!!  Along with everything else!!

It sounds as if you may have a refrigerator with a built-in ice maker and may therefore have two power cords from the refrigerator (one for the refrigerator and one for the ice maker). If that's the case then you'll need to determine which is which and the source of power for each outlet.

I have attached the rm1282 owners and installation manual.  See pages 12,14 and 16.  There are two fuses, a 3A for the control circuits and a 5 Amp for the 120 v heater controls.  They appear to be both mounted on the main board.

In mine as in yours (same year, same model, same refrigerator) there was a brown outlet and a white. The ice maker power cord plugs into the one that includes inverter power, circuit #1 so that making ice continues without land line or generator.  I think it was the brown one.  With no land line or generator and your inverter on one will have power and the other will not.

Other years may be different or have different refrigerators that may not be relevant to your specific year and refrigerator.

I found it thanks to the diagram posted by Roger, and for all the other inputs, thank you.  This forum is a wealth of info when you need it.

I finally got the cover off of the board in the outside compartment under the vented cover and there were the two fuses.  Took them out and tested them, both good???  Cleaned the ends and replaced them, and guess what??  It all works as advertised!!

One more minor point is which outlets are the 'fridge and ice maker plugged in to??  I have two in the outside compartment, White upper, and Black/Brown lower.  A minor point as I don't use the icemaker.

Test the two outlets with the coach not plugged in, generator off and inverter on. The ice maker power cord plugs into the one that includes inverter power, circuit #1 so that making ice continues without land line or generator.  With no land line or generator and your inverter on one will have power and the other will not.  Circuit # 1 gets power from the inverter. You want the refrigerator plugged into circuit #3 which only has power when the coach is plugged in or the generator is running. The refrigerator senses the 120 volts and switches from gas to electric.  You don't want that happening on an inverter powered circuit.

Here Is a picture from when I put in a res refrig.  The two outlets one above the other are circuits 1 and 3.  You have to test to determine which is which.

In my coach the top outlet is Circuit #1 and colored White and the lower one, colored Black/Brown is circuit #3 for the 'fridge.
