"Valve adjustments"

Have a observation/question about when you take your coaches to get a valve adjustment. In the last few months I have checked
valve clearence on 2 coaches, both had 8.3 cummins and not one valve needed adjustment.
If I were paying for this service I would have them tell me which valve were tight or loose or good.
I urge those of you who have this done to ask the mechanic which valves were adjusted and if they were loose or tight. There are
even forms out there to map this out for future reference.Would be interesting to see what the consensus is.

Just curious - what was the mileage on the two coaches you checked?

On my 3208T,  I had the valves adjusted and discussed this with the mechanic.  He stated that he wouldn't do just the tight ones or loose ones,  You do them all and get them all at the same spec., or don't bother.  Some may be at the high end and some at the low end, so do them all and get them in the middle of the range as much as possible.  Do it once ----  Do it right  ----  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

going to see Bernd in NAC Thursday for a valve Adj. at 120K on my 2000 Cummins ISM. He told me (not saying I have looked it up) that Cummins changed the valve service to 60,000 miles due to low sulfur fuel.

Don't flame me, I am just repeating what he said, I have gone almost exactly 120,000 miles from new (third owner?) in 2000, and my prior information suggests 120,000 for first valve adjustment

Did my m11 at 110k and the engine is noticeably smoother and quieter.  Whatever that means

Beau at Bernd's adjusted our valves and fuel injectors when we hit 90K a while back when we were in Nac.  I did not think to ask how much adjustment was needed.  Every valve was adjusted.

I thought Bernd told me that originally Cummins on the M11 recommended valve adjustment at 120K but changed to 90K based on what Cat recommended.  Not sure though.

John, you so kindly offered, and then drove over an hour and half each way to me to help me in Port Aransas, last Feb.  Again, much thanks and I still owe you a nice dinner when I get back south.  The coach might have had about 115,???.

The coach is now parked in covered storage some distance away.  We are back in the house, due to Dolly's declining health.
