50 amp Shore Power Replacement Plug Help

The last time we unplugged from shore power
the original plug left the ground prong inside
the receptacle.

I have a new plug that I bought 4 days ago, but now that I'm ready to do the change-over I realize that the cord opening on the new plug is much too small.

We are due to check into an RV park tomorrow
and probably don't need to be running our generator all the time if we have another heat wave.

I'm going to see if there's a supply house open today, and look for an RV supply.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

I would have thought that the new plug is sized correctly for a 50amp cable. Maybe check that plug again that it is the right one for RV use. If all is ok you may be able to "OPEN" the hole in it a bit  ie cut some of the plastic/rubber out of hole till it fits. DO NOT cut the cable casing though.

I used this Camco replacement 2 years ago...has held up just fine.  Easy to install - cutting the old one off is the toughest part (I used a hacksaw)!

Perfect! I was on the phone just now and located one nearby.  Was still curious as to the hole size,  but you answered it for me.
Thanks

Stop in at a Home Depot or Lowes. They both stock them. They come where you can have it as a 30 amp 120/240v plug or 50 amp

While they may have them, that is NOT one of them.  The center neutral needs to be STRAIGHT.

It comes with two blades, straight (50 amp) and L (30 amp). I just bought this exact plug at home depot to tie into the dryer outlet at a friends house. Used a length of Carol 10/4 SOOW and a camco female connector to build my own cord.

Sounds like a plan.

Just did not want anyone to thing that the picture was of an RV 50 amp male plug.

On the OP's 2003 it likely has a cord reel wired in, no twist-lock on the coach end.  He's also asking about the male end that plugs into the campground pedestal.

I was able to get the Camco 55252 plug and put it on yesterday.

I went to both Lowe's and the Homeless Depot but was unable to locate a plug with a big enough opening for the cord.

The only thing I don't like about the Camco is
that the pull handle doesn't allow the electrical box cover to close when it's plugged in.

Sorry about that.  We use a EMS 50 amp portable protector at the power box, so I never had any problem with the handle.  If it becomes too much hassle, you could just cut it off.

No big deal. If I find one I like better it's an easy swap now that the hard work is done.

I believe this fits my 50amp cord size.. I just made a 25ft cord with this end on it and the cord was the same size as my cord from the motorhome
