Looking for Reels

Anyone have a Reelcraft manual spring power cord or water hose reel? I will be adding reels to the 270 and I really like the old spring loaded ones. This could be your opportunity to replace your spring loaded with power reels.

I installed a spring loaded water reel and a powered 50amp reel about a year ago. Still very happy with the decision and the results. It makes things much easier and organized.

The best advice I got (from Brett Wolfe) was to install them over a sheet of 3/16 aluminum to spread the load.

If you do not find them here on the Forum, you might look on line at Colaw RV.
They look to be wrecking RV'S in large quantities all the time. I have never called
that they didn't have what I needed, but They ask good money for their parts,
too. Have only seen one FT on, testimony to the fact that old FTs never die!

Following up on Jeff's post:

Anyone with hose or cord reels needs to look under the coach to make sure that the bolts/washers/nuts holding the reel has not broken through the fiberglass underside.  If so, it allows water into the basement sandwich and can easily migrate to the rear bulkhead area.

So, if broken through or even dented, my suggestion is to use some 4"X4" pieces of aluminum as backing plates just below the fiberglass bottom.  Use a polysulifide caulk to bed it.  Load spread, depression in FG/hole in FG fixed.  Cost, a couple of bucks (real bucks, not coach bucks).

Thanks for the tip. They don't have any now but I'll keep checking. Checked with FT, Motorhomes and Visone already. Last time I got a water reel from JamesS at Extreme but just got lucky on that one.

I did the same in our last rig. Good combo. Probably end up doing that if I can't find the old Reelcrafts. All those take-offs have got to be somewhere. People are probably keeping them for the shop.

Good advice, Brett. That's exactly what I'll do.

Jor,

As it happens I have removed one of each from my 1999 U320 and will not be using them.

Send me a private message if you are interested.  I am currently in Nacogdoches at World Line Motors (Bernd's shop).

I'm also interested in reels.  My U320 doesn't have them even though they were supposed to be standard equipment (no evidence that reels might have been removed).

UPDATE ON REELS

Finally got the Reelcraft water and power cord reels installed. I used an 18" x 24" piece of 1/8" aluminum as a backing plate against the bottom of the rig.

The "out" on the water reels goes to the water tank direct fill. If I want to use city water (never do) I can just pop it off the water tank and pop it onto the city water valve. I'm leaving the tank exposed.
