Non-motorized cord & hose reels can be had

I was at NAPA in Nacogdoches this morning and this display caught my eye - non-motorized cord and hose reels.  Having searched high and low on the interwebs for non-motorized reels for a price comparison and come up empty, I thought this might help someone.

If I recall correctly, I think the cord version only supports up to 30 amps.  I don't think they make a 50 amp version.  If so, it would be a good alternative to a power reel.  They seem to be very well made.

rvupgradestore.com has a couple of manual cord reels http://www.rvupgradestore.com/category-s/317.htm?Search=cord+reel&Submit=  The Mor-ryde one is just the reel, no cord so you could use it for either 30 or 50 amp.

I have the non-motorized Mor-ryde reel for sale, excellent shape (as new). Used a brief time (no issues). added motorized this year.
I am willing to part with it for $100.00.  I will be in Nac/FOT on Monday and Tuesday for sure if anyone is interested.

I was curious about that and visited the mfr website.  You can get reels without the cable, so I guess you can make your own 50 Amp.

Like you, I did not see any pre-wired 50's.

The reason I posted this is because jor got mine - and I was surprised to discover I could not find any spring-wound reels online for a price reference.  Anyhow, I thought someone else might find this information useful...  all the time I was trying to find information online that display had been sitting right there at NAPA - a store I had visited a handful of  times and never managed to notice.  I guess we tend to see mostly what we're ready to see and when we're ready to see it!

That would work if you're only using it to store the cord, which then means you have to spool off the entire length of the cable each time you connect to shore power.  If you're using it to hard wire, then my understanding is that there needs to be an extra slip ring in the reel to handle the extra leg of a 50 amp cable?

The reels I got from Rich were standard for 99, same ones I had on our 320. They are both Reelcraft and fit nicely into our water tank compartment. I think the 50 amp reel has 17' of power cord on it. Not sure on the water reel but I think it's 35'.

Same ones we have, factory installed when coach was built.  I was thinking the power cord was 20', but I could be wrong.  The water hose is definitely 35', because I installed a new hose a while back.  Both our reels still work fine after 23 years.  The ratchet "catch" thingy on the electric cord reel is getting intermittent, but I can still always find a place where it will catch.

The Reelcraft L-7000 may be the one for 50 amp service.  It's got 4 conductors and is rated at 45 amps by reelcraft but some other sources have it listed as 50 amps.  It says you can put 35' of cable on it but I think that's a much smaller gauge than my 50 amp cable.  I would guess that the 17' described by Jor is about right.  A good deal on a used one is a lucky find.

Wow, $829 without a cord! I put in a powered Glendinning CABLEMASTER CRR-50 cord reel that came with 36' of very flexible 50 amp cable with a pull handle connector, AND a powered Hosemaster (also by Glendinning) reel with 35' of hose. Both of those items added together probably cost less than $829. True, it took some creative problem solving to fit them both in the width of the compartment (which is set by the width of the fresh water tank), but it worked out well.

A new Reelcraft is no doubt very expensive.  Not that any of the others are not high quality, but the Reelcraft is a pretty heavy duty, industrial quality item.  I like it's simplicity and durability but I agree it's not worth $829.  I assume that Jor and Rich worked out a price that was good for both of them.  I haven't seen any used ones listed on Ebay for comparison so I don't think they're very common.  That's what I meant by being lucky to find good deal on a used one.

I think the reelcraft pictured is real shop equipement.

I gave up the hose reel so far and my buddy installed the Glendinning powered hose reel with the storage bucket underneath it.

Had to be turned 90 degrees and a hole drilled in the compartment wall for the cord to stick through into the soap dispenser area but this version has no sliding contact ring to conduct the electricity.  Permanently attached.

I carry a 25' and a 50' fairly high quality Rv white water hose in one of the slide out drawers in an adjacent  compartment but I did keep the hose reel and may mount it in the edge of the non heated compartment at some future time and connect it through the wall.  Maybe.  Does not take a lot of time to curl up a light hose

Don,

Did you bend that diamond plate or just cut it? I can't tell from your picture whether it is sitting or something (like an angle) or you actually made two 90 degree bends there.

No bending... ¼" thick diamond plate. Just attached some ⅛" X 1.5" angle aluminum to the walls and screwed the diamond plate to it.
