Yes, this picture shows an identical one to my 2000 8.3 Cummins. Not well looked after on the outside though.

Yep, that is an 8.3L ISC. The upper belt tensioner on the is on the outside of the belt on the C8.3's that I have seen. Very poor picture, but doesn't look all that dirty compared to others I have seen. Engine compartment insulation is shot as usual on this vintage coach. The PO must have been somewhat careless backing up on slopes or in proximity to obstacles on the ground, judging from the mudflap!

It has some fiberglass damage on the back bumper corner we will have to get fixed if this works out.

looking at the photo, the cleanest thing in there is the turbo, if the engine compartment is this dirty take a real close look at this coach.
Makes you wonder what the rest looks like.

And, as Don pointed out, the mudflap damage says "whoops", I'd be having a good look at the underpinnings. Never knew if this was "tuned" or pulling out of the wrong place.

I think that mudflap has seen a lot of oil or diesel.  It has expanded between bolt holes where it's attached.

Mudflap...
Looks to me like the rear end is low enough that it is pushing the mudflap into the dirt. Has happened before too.
Don't think I could draw any other conclusions (re: mudflap) with seeing it.

Engine is 8.3

My 2 cents on the mudflap mystery, the rubber part wore out and they salvaged the foretravel section and got a homemade
rubber piece.

Also it looks like they towed quite a bit from the rust inside the 2" reciever.

DigitalEd, have you set a budget for what you want to buy, and set aside money for repairs, what ever you do DO NOT get in a hurry to buy a coach, there is a very nice U295 36ft coach in the classified section of the forum.

I believe the mudflap was degraded by oil and contaminates from the roadways that the rubber was not compatible with, made soft and stretched out out shape and then hardened.  More than likely the rubber is not Nitrile and surely not Viton, these are oil resistant rubbers.  EPDM/EPR and Hypalon are ozone resistant rubber materials, where silicone has a higher temp range but is not a good oil or ozone resistant material.  More than likely just a blended rubber material.  A proper material would be a cloth or nylon inserted rubber material or rubber coated belting, as the inserted material will limit stretching.

It's an 8.3, but it looks to me like it MAY be a mechanical engine. It has the mechanical fan controller.  A pic on the right side showing the injection pump would clear it up.

Isn't spotless, but doesn't look horribly dirty to me.

When looking at a coach to buy, I would rather see a dirty engine than an engine that has been cleaned and painted. If it was cleaned and painted just to sell it.
