generator stumble /shutdown
ly one of my last entries as our coach has been handed over to MOT on consignment. For the last 2 outings the 10kw kubota has exhibited some stumbling and stalling and once had low oil fault which prompted my replacing of t he low oil press. sender which did not solve the problem. While on the road from Madisoni to MOT the problem became slightly worse and my memory of forum searches revealed one entry discussing a plugged vent line in main fuel tank. I tried running with the fuel cap on one side of tank loosened to allow additional venting. This seemrd to work for a short run but when stopping for rest/fuel the gen stopped again. On a whim I replaced the fuel filter on the generator. I had both main and pre filters but the pre requires some additional jack/support response and it was out of the question. Well to my surprise the gen ran an entire night with intermittent a/c needs and for 400 miles underway as we arriived at MOT. Obviously both filters needed changing but as luckwould have it changing the on engine filter created enough flow to allow normal running. Some additional knowledge is that I have added antimicrobial to last 2 fuel loads so that as coach sits at MOT there will not be any appreciable algae load. The power service anti-algae additive has been known to cause some filter issues. I think the topic of fuel filters has been covered but review and reinforcement for replacement at prescribed or earlier intervals bears mentioning.
