Engine battery cables & starter/solenoid

I thought I would alert the forum members of a situation that was detected when I was having an engine starting problem with our coach.  The starting issue turned out to be a compound one involving replacing my 11 year old Optima Yellow top AGM batteries with new Deka Intimidator AGMs, replacing a boost solenoid, verifying voltage regulator ok and then when it still wouldn't start without using the boost, it was discovered my hot and neutral battery cables which run alongside the exhaust manifold had burned apparently causing arcing when crossing over the starter solenoid which in turn caused it to be scorched.

I had the cables replaced and they were wrapped near the heat generating area with exhaust insulating wrap.  We had to order a rebuilt Cummins starter/starter solenoid (only sold together) and installed.

I never would have thought to check this area for any items of concern.

Frank
