air bag replacement parts info

I have looked at past info on this issue but did not see part #s etc for the brass 90 degree air fitting that goes into bag. Does anyone have the sizes etc and also the nuts needed to hold bags on with as I will be doing mine in a month once I buy them but would like info so I can buy new bits.

John,

I bought all stainless nuts and washers when I did ours. Will go out and give you the sizes tomorrow when it stops snowing. You probably know the bags don't come with any. The brass fitting is going to be a little harder to identify.

The problem with the 90deg. fittings is that the ones on our motorhomes were the old style that had an insert and a ferrule to go in the plastic tuber, the new 90's have the insert made in the 90. You either have to find some of the old 90's or cut off some of the line to use the new ones. I can give you the part number of the new ones tomorrow but do not have a number for what came in the coach. I was able to use all but one of the old fittings and if you are taking the fenders off as you usually do you should be able to re-use all of them.

thank you for the info and yes I will be removing the fenders. I am only doing the rears at this time as fronts look fine and one of the old rears will become a test to see wall thickness and another as spare should one of the fronts go bang. (Which I doubt)

John,

Don't know what kind of jack you have or tools but here is our Google Photo Album of the last air bag change. I welded up a plate to raise the coach, vice gripped it in place and then used a HF air jack to lift the coach. I don't have to compress the bag at all as you can see, just slip it in place. I also welded up a little tool to take off each of the four hidden nuts on the eight bags. I don't take any of the glass off.  I do make sure the top of the flange is spotless where the nuts sit so no dirt gets on the threads, then it's a easy thread.  U300 Air Bag Installation & Tools - Google Photos

Does anybody have any experience with this brand bag, It is 73.04 and made by Contitech and part number is AS9448? I am going to use the Firestone bags part# W01-358-9448 which is 163.47 and then a 105 discount makes it a few cents cheaper the Michigan Truck Spring, Both have free shippinh ground UPS. , The Contitech bag is much cheaper and very curious about quality and where it is made.

Pierce, thanks for pics but I love taking the panels off as I do a good clean and rust proofing while they are off. I do not want to get arms and hands all twisted up as my back problems make sitting on a stool so much easier.

There is no difference until you get to the new spartan chassis, from like 1989 on up. Can't speak for the Phenix, Nimbus or the rare early IFS.

I believe Contitech is a division of Continental AG (Germany), makers of high end tires, belts, etc, etc. Should be an excellent product.

Where did you find the Conitech bags for $73.04?  I can't seem to get them to come up.

yes - you can look up the numbers on Barry Beams website - the bags are the same, whether they be goodyear, firestone, etc. Year don't matter.

John,
Note that 3 of the 4 bolts on each bag are 1/2-13 UNC. The fourth is a combination air and mounting stud and is larger. Can't tell what right now, my records are packed away for the an impending move..

Here is the link to the Contitech bags, The research I have done is that the only thing different on these over the Firestone bags is the bottom cone or pedestal, the contitech is a plastic and firestone is aluminiom, I have used the plastic pedistal before on semi trailers and dont think there would be a problem for using on a coach, I  might order these instead of the Firestone now that I have more info on them.

Thats a huge savings, i dont see why plastic wouldnt work fine. My old ones were quite corroded, so the plastic may even be an improvement. Wish I knew about these before I bought eight firestones.

I had already ordered 4 of the Firestone so will maybe get the Contitech for front later--less weight and air pressure so less chance of a problem I would think.

Thanks to you Adam I purchased eight of the Contitech air bags for a total price of $584.32.......................can you say deal??
The label says made in Mexico/designed in Germany.  As far as quality they look great.  I've got them stowed away in the coach
and when I get back to Tennessee in April I'll install them.

According to Conitech's info here are the thread sizes with torque amounts;
1/4-18 NPTF: max. 22 lbf ft
3/4-16 UNF: max. 50 lbf ft
1/2-13 UNC: max. 35 lbf ft

Thanks again.

My 4 rear  bags should arrive today from Tuscan so hope to install in am.
Right now we are vacumming the front AC out and testing for any loss of vac to make sure the system can be pressurized with 134a.
Bought a 30lb can of 134a and 2 cans of leak test coloring for under $100 us from AC place here, sounds good?
Friend here has the pro vacuum pump and service manifold so all set. My system was empty and has been since buying the coach. We open windows so be interesting to see if it works once charged etc.

If you haven't already done so it would be an excellent idea to replace the receiver/drier. It's best to have clean, dry desiccant in the system.

Let's be careful here.

Two VERY different topic are being discussed:

1. Air suspension/air bags
2. Dash A/C

Suggest we get back to the suspension air bag discussion here and start a new topic for the dash A/C.
