Encore no more

Encore RV. Since closed, not sure what happened to that inventory at that point. Keith Risch now st MOT was there for years, might know what became of that inventory.

Encore RV still has a website which indicates it is open today. When did it close and why? i.e. Is the owner still sick?

My 1996 U320 will be 21 year old next month and the ABS light has been on for a few months. I would like to disable and remove the entire ABS system rather than go through what others have experienced, particularly when replacement parts are no longer available. My justification is a report that I read a few years ago which indicated that a Nascar driver could out perform an ABS system when emergency stopping in slippery conditions. The ABS does reduce stopping distances for most folks, but not all.

Does anyone have instruction on ABS removal while NOT disabling the retarder?

Encore RV has a phone on their web site: 1-936-569-1600.
I phoned it and got voice mail, but maybe not open on Saturdays!
Address is listed as 2101 NW Stallings Drive, is that different than the feed lot in their old location?

I think you are referring to Robert. I talked with him a few weeks ago

and he said he was doing better. He has a warehouse and was hoping

to reopen before too long. He was getting another forklift to handle heavier

inventory, so I hope he will be back up and running, soon.

You may want to start a new topic on this as it is getting a bit far from Encore.

That said I'll make a few comments.

First, I think that this issue is just coming up as the ABS components of older coaches reach the end of their useful life.  Consequently, there probably isn't a lot of experience yet, especially with DIYers, to provide instructions.

Second, I don't believe that there is any direct relationship between ABS and the retarder operation.  JUST ABS (in contrast to the more sophisticated full traction control systems) is not a terribly integrated system.  When you apply the brakes the wheel sensors detect a wheel not turning and release the brake to that wheel.  It does this rapidly, reapplying the brake and repeatedly sensing for lock-up until you take your foot off the brake.  Disabling the ABS in my coach hasn't affected the retarder at all.

If one turned the electrical connections off the existing valves they will still function as non-ABS relay valves.  However, in your case I personally would want to know WHY the light is on before I just disconnected things.

Wyatt mixed two parts in his post here.  I was responding to the second part asking about instructions to disable the ABS without affecting the retarder and suggested that he might want to start a new topic on that as it was getting a bit far afield from the Encore issue.
