Familiar with 1985 38 ft diesel pusher

We're new to Foretravel.  We haven't been able to figure out how to just use city water without the pump. There also appears to be a propane leak somewhere in or near our stove. Anyone out there familiar with this year that could help is appreciated.

Pilot light on the stove is out.  Lift the top.  In the middle ofvtge spider of tubing is the pilot. Can be turned off and you use a lighter

On a coach with a patina like this one, it's best to fill your tank from city water, shut it off and use the pump. Not that familiar with this year but it probably has a tank fill valve inside. Ours is under the bathroom sink. Turns ninety degrees and you can here the water going into the tank. Make sure to close it or you won't get any pressure with the pump.  I have seen coaches that had a inside plumbing failure and water goes everywhere so don't recommend keeping city pressure all the time.

Or, is your 12V pump not working? Check it with a test light. No joy with the test light, then it's the latching relay. It's probably a VW latching relay, possibly on the electrical bus panel on the other side of the coach. Get an electrical schematic for your year.

If you hook a hose up you are on city water automatically.  Filling the tank requires a valve to be opened.  Sold a lot of 85's

If you are on an Oshkosh chassis the water tank probably will be between the drivers seat and the passenger

seat. If so, there will be valves in there and when you have city water hooked up to the outlet on the back

drivers side if the coach you may open the valve to allow water into the tank. Usually, I think, the pressure

from the outside water keeps the pump from coming on. There should be a filler inside the grill area on your

coach in the front, to manually fill the tank from there. No matter where you get the water from I would add

bleach to the water hose and flush through the system and also add to the water tank and run through the

system. One can never be too careful to try to keep bacteria out of their system If the coach has been sitting

very long check for leaks and never go away from the coach with the city hose or the water pump on until you are

sure there are no leaks. I would buy bottled water to use for a few days, as well. If you are new to RV life then

you will find that there are so many different types of water out there, Some cities water are down right nasty

in taste and smell. I try to keep a tank of good water (but never over several days old) just in case. There is

gyp water, water with iron and sulfur  in it, some water that is so hard a teaspoon full of Dawn will not make

a soap bubble and on and on. If get some really soft water and can not get the soap off of you or whatever you

are trying to wash a little white vinegar will get the soap off. I like to keep some gallons of bottled water on hand

in case something goes wrong. Also. run a couple of loads of ice through your ice maker before you start using

it to put in something you are going to drink. My first FT had a leak in the small line going to the ice maker. That was

a shock the next morning to step on cold wet carpet.

My 1985 V917 is missing the cap on the front water tank.  were do I find a replacement cap?  Brand & part number>

The vent hose was open to the air under the grille

With a piece of screen fastened across the opening to keep bugs out?

 I removed the soft hose and replaced with some tube slanted up  to the pas side above the horn. Now I can fill from there or the rear inlet .

Used to add a front fill to OREDS.  Direct to tank nose in.  Much better

I even went so far as to add a "Y" fitting to the overflow up front, and then a 12V water pump, switch, and 3/4" clear milk house hose so I could pump water in from 6 gallon jugs sitting on the ground. Beat trying to hold the jug up in the air.
