2003 U270 Slide Problems

My slide does not extend evenly.  Dinette side extends fully but the driver side comes up an inch or two short.  According to the HWH schematics there is a synchronizing cylinder.  Does any one know if there is a way to adjust this, or could there be another problem?  Thank you

Might try calling HWH for some directions, or FT. If you learn something please share it here, inquiring minds want to know.

Check to see if your cylinder is leaking.  It is located on the ceiling in the electrical bay, if it is leaking you most likely will see oil on the floor.  The plunger seal on mine blew out which resulted in a substantial amount of fluid leaking from the system.  In my case as soon as the slide started opening only one side started to move.  Fortunately it only started to extend less than two inches before I stopped extending the slide.  Now when extending or retracting the slides I do not take my eyes off of the  movement, last thing you want to happen is having one side wedged in the opening.

Each side can be adjusted.  However, if yours is off by several inches I would look for a leak as the cause.

Our 2002 has the train system with a sync cylinder.  When it went out the top of the slide extended without the bottom going out.  I'm seems like the cylinder was about $1,600.  I thought it was only on 02.

JohnK,
We need to know what year coach you have.  Slide systems have evolved over the years and thay are not the same.  So a model year helps.

I would call HWH and ask for Randy - Tech Dept.  He will probably not answer the phone so leave a message.  It may be days before you hear back from him, but he will call.  There are 2 or sometimes 3 folks in that department and they are fielding calls from all over the US.  Great group.  Even if you have solved the problem you can review the system with him and confirm your fix or - look at something else.  :)

JohnK,
Reading the link that Roger provided there are synchronizing valves inside the sync cylinder to keep both rods operating together.
I wonder if you just need to hold the "extend" or "retract" button a little longer for these valves to do their job?
(see page 7 from the above link starting with "SYNCHRONIZING VALVES" paragraph)

Be sure to hold the extend button until the red light goes out.  It should be pretty quick after the room is out.

I wait 10 or 15 seconds after the red light goes out before I let go of the toggle button. (2002 train slide out model)

Here's a link to an HWH document on HWH Synchronizing Cylinders.  It's on the Wanderlodge forum.

What an interesting read.  The explanation of hydraulic properties make perfect sense but I had never thought through this application.  I'm a total newbie but the more I learn about these coaches the more I appreciate how they're built.

On a side Note:  HWH has a great on-line school - - that one can complete which explains how their systems work.  I believe that one can take their exam at the end of the course and get a certificate of completion - or something.  I just went through the chapters and opted to NOT take the test.
