Boost Switch

Went to start the coach this morning and I noticed the boost switch not lighting up. I tried the switch a couple of times and there was one time the light came on. I turned it off and it would not come on again. I carry a meter with me.
1.  What is the best procedure to troubleshoot?
2.  What is the best way to get to the bulb on the switch and to check the switch?  Hope I don't have to remove all of the panel screws.
3.  Where is the boost switch solenoid located on my '99?
4.  Is there a fuse for the solenoid?
Thanks in advance,
John M

John, on my 2000 295 the boost solenoid is on the plate below bed in engine area.

It is probably only the bulb, use the starter without the boost and push the boost and see if the starter picks up speed. If it does it is just the bulb. I will be watching this thread as I have several of the bulbs not working on that panel.

Craneman,
Can you get to the bulb without removing all of the screws?

Looking from the rear of the coach towards the front - on our 1999 it is on the right side (curb side) of this panel, towards the top.  about halfway between the size/shape of an upside down coffee cup and upside-down espresso cup - thicker gauge wires.  If you are having trouble ID-ing, post back here and I'll take a photo this evening.

That's why I will be watching this thread. I have not gone there before. The bulbs were out when I bought the coach and other issues have been taken care of before I go there.

John,

The boost solenoid on our rig is under the foot of the bed.  To determine if it's working and the light is just out have Carmen
activate the switch while you listen to hear the solenoid engage.

I'm not near our coach but you should be able to replace the rocker switch easily enough by accessing the back of it from under the dash?

Well, I was able to stop so we can have some lunch.  I tapped on the switch and the light would come off and on.  It is either the bulb or the contacts on the switch.  I'm thinking it's the bulb. How do you get to the bulb?  My boost switch is on the side console.

On mine you lift up the plate the switches are mounted in and at the back of each one in sort of the corner of switch body is a pull out plug that holds the bulb. I had replaced some of them but found that the bulb I was using is a fraction too long and causes the bulb to be pushed out when using switch. Simple replacement when you have new ones. So check the length and replace with same.

John,
I was afraid of that. It is what it is.  As soon as we stop at our campsite in Auburn Alabama we will dive in a.a check it out.

John,
With all of the wires hanging from the switches, it can be a bit challenging to work on the underside of that panel. Here is a picture of the way I supported it from above so as to keep from putting a strain on the wires.

Don,
For a 1999 your console is diferent from mine.  Mine is straight all the way across where yours goes up at an angle.

The sling idea is great.  There is room for only one person in that area.  We will do the same.
Thanks,

Like John, I am totally impressed by that sling! I just had mine apart to run some wire. Next time, that baby will be in a DonSling!

Foretravel seems to have often worked on the trickle down upgrade principle... The 320's would get the benefits of the newest design changes, and a year or two later the U270's would inherit them as well.

Here is a quick check if your two battery banks have not been connected (boost switch off):  Look at the monitor and see if it is drawing amperage with boost switch off (if house batteries are charged, it should show zero draw).  Turn on the boost switch and see if has changed.  If it did, you know that the switch made a connection.  If both banks are equally charged, it might not show anything.

Like John H I found all of the #79 replacement bulbs I have found are a fraction too long to fit properly in the receptacle. If anyone has found a current source/ brand that works I would be forever grateful for the intel.

The last time I changed out some of the rocker switch bulbs, I used a Sylvania #2721.  It fit fine.  Same one recommended at Beamalarm:
