Flaps?

For a long time we have all discussed the corrosion to the bottom side of our coaches.

In a post earlier today John44 mentioned a mud flap. I wonder if the installation of

flaps behind both front tires might keep some water and salt spray off of the under

belly of the beast??? They may already be there and I am behind the curve, nothing

new for me.

I found the mup flap material at a parts store for truck parts,it was 24" square and the same material as the rear ones.I cut them
12" wide and 17"long.I went from the backside of the beam that the rear front airbag sits on,If water can't get up there it won't
rust as bad.

How did you attach them?

I made 2 for the front of our 295 and posted a while ago.(the rear already had them) I made an angle iron brkt that hooks into the rectangular box section that air bags sit on and is held other end by 3/8 bolt so easy to remove. I used ind belting for mine.
I am in process off making them for Brothers GV as well and will be hanging them from under the bulkhead angle by 2 of the torselastic bolts.. I will post some pics of both styles when I doo it in the next day.

Thanks for the info. I think this is one of the easiest and  most effective

measures to keep road salt and spray off of the undersides of our coaches.

We had a front step conversion done at Xtreme. I noticed right away that road spray and dirt was getting up on the steps ... not pretty.  So we stopped at a WalMart and got a door mat - rubbery, plastic on one side and green grass like stuff on the other.  I put it up behind the step and in front of the tire with several long black HD cable ties.  It is still there three years later, the gass side toward the tires just sheds water and seems very tough.  And the steps stay clean.

When we leave MN in Jan there is always some salt.  We watch the weather and go when the roads are dry and hose everything off as soon as we hit warm enough.  We spent three weeks on the TX gulf coast.  More salt in the very humid air there than we ever imagined.

Well here are a couple of pictures of the ones I made for Geoff's GV (front)
They are attached to the 2 bolts for the torsalastic susp'n. The angle I used has a few extra holes in them which were in them from another project and as you do not see them I was not bothered.

Charlie, maybe some time this summer once I get rid of a list of projects I have for neighbours and the Local Community Hall. I have agreed to make a pile of cabinets for Hall and finish of a garage and suite for friends. Time is linited.
I have just finished repainting the roof of Geoff's GV and resealing the front cap were it overlaps the main body. Then painting the over cab roof white instead of the dark blue as it was really getting bad with sun etc. Still have to look at Turbo and check condition and see if there is any way to add air bags to assist the rear Torsilastic beams. Days are too short
Silly me fell off the ladder and x rays say I have a cracked Vertebrae, compacted disc and torn ligaments in upper back!!  Have been sleeping in chair in lvg room as it is agony trying to lie down.Life is fun for sure.

Thanks Chuck but this one is a minor issue as I had spinal surgery in mid 70s for laminectomy and discectomy (sp)  so pain etc is a normal thing for me.

John - Looks great...no worries on the flaps I can knock a set out. Thanks for posting the pics, Eileen said at least it was the ladder and not the roof...

Sometimes rest is good you wont rust !!

Just throwing this out there.  What would be the down side to having a " full length " flap that goes all the way from one side to the other.    Seems like it would keeep just that much more spray or mist off the bulkhead.
