See level strip installation question.

Getting ready to install the see level system.  Upon removing the panel behind the chairs and in front of the black / grey watertanks, I'm finding that the tanks have these little buttons permanently attached.  Has anyone else run into this when converting systems.

 Can I just run them over the top of one of the buttons or      should I try to avoid them and run the strips at an angle or.      Just use one at the top and then only be able to read the level at 1/2 up to full.            The black tank is the only one that I think will be an issue.

Those were senders for a liquid level system.

Bob, you want the strips to be mounted flat on the tanks. Do not go over the buttons.  If you only use a single strip on the black tank it will read zero until it gets to the bottom of the strip and 100% at the top.  Put the strip down a couple inches from the top - at 100% you will have a bit of room left.  You may be able to use two sections as long as the top and bottoms are lined up in the middle.  Probably OK if they are not aligned vertically, just be sure to cut the tabs correctly.  Call SeeLevel if you need more help.

Very nice knowing what your tank levels actually are.  I bought two three strip kits (if you are using two strips per tank) and put one display inside and one in the wet bay.  No more guessing.

Where are you putting the top of the top strip on your fresh water tank?
 
I noticed that if I try to fill (without Seelevel) to the top, it starts overflowing, but I am not sure exactly where is too much.

I put my strips an inch or two from the top on all three tanks.  I want to know before they are full.  Fresh is an inch or two from the bottom.  I want to know that I am almost out before I am.

I also purchased 2 see level kits. Each tank is too tall to only use 1 strip per tank.              Plus when I'm filling outside and near the water bay, I'll be able to shut things off before overflow.  Without running inside to check the display.         

Especially if I get the direct fill connection done, as I plan to.

This was one of our first projects as the Javalina had been removed. We also ended up buying 2 kits as we wanted 2 monitors. We were able to do both tanks top to bottom. We installed one monitor in the wet bay and one in the bathroom on the sink cabinet....very convenient spot.  ;D

Finally completed the see level installation and minus 1 small glitch, everything worked great the 1st time. (Forgot to cut the "top" tab off of the top gray water strip.)    The toughest part had to be squeezing the strips in behind the plumbing on the fresh water tank. I just told myself , if it takes all day, so be it.  The only real alternative was to put the strips for the fresh tank in the same place and take the water heater out to do it.  I was able to get it done right thanks to the large access hole on the side of the water bay.

Realy didn't want to take the heater out mostly cause I had just had it ou a few weeks earlier and sealed the _ _ _ _ out of things.

 The rubber strips that you see on the fresh water tank see level strip are at the recommendation of the tech people at see level. I didn't want to have interference from the metal fittings on the water lines and 1/4 " rubber packing sheets from lowes were what they recommended.         
          Works sweet, cool to be able to see where the tanks are at either inside or outside.

Thanks Roger.

 Now onto the direct fill water tank project. My theory is with direct fill the DW could enjoy a nice longer shower at the same time I'm filling and draining stuff.      Especially if no one is waiting.      Is that tacky ??


  I've searched the forum and didn't find many solutions. Maybe a new thread.

Robert, tell me more about rubber packing sheets...  I have always been concerned about the strip be influenced by nearby metal or plumbing.  What did SeaLevel caution you about?

Has anyone placed the See Level, sorry Garnet SeeLevel strips, for the fresh water tank, on the tank side in the wet bay, drivers side, instead of with the other black and grey sensors on the passenger side? 

This seems it might be easier than removing the hot water heater for access to mount the sensor strips.

I considered installing on that side but chose not to for 2 reasons. 

1) My tank is not flat on that side.  It has an angled bend at the bottom that would not allow a strip to measure a significant amount of the tank.  The strips are too stiff to bend that much and they can't be cut that short. 

2) There is a horizontal, metal tank support brace that crosses the middle of the tank.  The strip would have to go between the tank and that brace.  The strips are not supposed to be placed close to any metal.  I think that brace would interfere with the strip.

If you don't have either of those issues, then you'd probably be fine using that side.
