Kool-O-Matic Motor

My kitchen Kool-O-Matic (gotta love that name) was squealing so I decided to replace the motor. Don from Va did a nice write-up on this about five years back (Don's) and NealP, another three years ago (Neal's). I used the same NAPA motor (#655-2378). The price is now $51.57 instead of the earlier $36. Anyhow, it works great.

I was going to replace the mounted switch as I thought I had a new one around there somewhere which I picked up a few years ago. Can't find it so I'm guessing the new owner of our last coach is its proud owner. Still looking though.

That is a very nice unit, I know ours has been replaced once, but no clue whether it was the switch or the motor. Let us know what you find, John.  ^.^d

What a treasure trove of valuable information this forum is. Low speed quit working on our Kool-O Matic. Quick search on the forum and had part number, and even some pictures on replacement. Motor now $63 but fit perfectly. Huge thanks to all who have been down this road before us. Only hope I can contribute as much for the community good.

That is "COOL" to know, as we have one. Where did you buy the motor from? Thanks.  ^.^d

Steve, Glad you could fix your Kool-o-matic. We think they are a benefit worth keeping. Thanks for posting.

But I am a little confused, as I thought the motor was just one speed, and to get low or high speeds an air-cooled resistor to lower the voltage is used, thus slowing motor speed.

And if the motor works ok at high speed (bypass resistor) and does not work at low speed, the resistor is broken.

Bearings were shot. Motor was hard to turn by hand. Resistor was fine but have to admit looking up there and seeing that red hot , glowing coil makes me nervous. New motor runs twice as fast as old one and moves a lot of air on high. Very quiet on low but a lot of wind noise on high. Probably the only time we will use the high setting is when I'm doing the cooking. LOL

Did notice the resistor can be adjusted and thinking of maybe trying to adjust it to move just a little more air on low.

I put that same motor in my 94 Bluebird Kool-O-Matic fan. Many Bluebird guys did.

I never ran it on high with the new motor, only low and medium.  Not sure how many amps it draws on high with the new motor, and what size wiring / fuse/ breaker is in the chain to it.

We only run our's on low (it's a two speed). I cross my fingers every time we fire it, but, still hums along!

I used the same NAPA motor (#655-2378).
Per napaonline.com (and the local Napa) this replacement is not available anymore. Anyone know of a replacement for the replacement?

Thanks craneman! That post recommended the TEM 937209 from Napa. Didn't have it anywhere locally so I ordered it online. Says it will be here May 12. Will update if it works out. Maybe even some pics. :)

That motor looks like it will work better as it is 3"diameter. I used the 655-2378 which is 3 1/4 dia. Also if you try to run it on high you will blow the 15 fuse. I changed my fuse to 20 amp as the wire size is good good for it.
