No throttle or cruise control 1993 u280 40 foot

Have bendix cruise control re did grounds in engine compartment .No throttle at all check all fuses under dash all good. Not sure where look next . Thanks form been a lot help.

if air cruise maybe the air cylinder needs to be serviced and possible potentiometer at end of cylinder. I had bad throttle control with the 95 240 and after taking this all apart and greasing internally it was no more problem.

Here is the manual and "modified for Foretravel" system schematic. Manual has a trouble shooting section.

Yes, the Bendix system is pretty simple (the throttle part). Strictly AIR. I would take loose the line at the Bendix box (front of engine compartment) to see if air comes out when someone steps on the throttle (yes, with coach air pressure up).

Doug,

Can you be more specific as to what is broken? I had some problems with my throttle cable about 3 years ago, and did a extensive search for a replacement. My conclusion: they are unobtainable.

The part number on my original throttle cable is "MORSE 303192 47.8" 5745". You can look around, and see if you have any luck finding one. As you have already discovered, the Bluebird owners have this same throttle system on some of their coaches. I found threads on their forum about the cable, and attempts to replace it or repair it. But NOBODY (that I am aware of) ever found a source for a new replacement cable.

What I finally did was "rebuild" my cable. I disconnected it at both ends, and took it to my bench to work on. I found both of the unique ends were still firmly attached to the inner wire core. On mine, the problem was the outer covering for the cable was disintegrating from heat/age. I used a combination of rubber tubing, metallic tape, and heat shrink tubing to pretty much restore the whole outer covering. By simply doing that, I restored the proper function of the cable. It has been working fine for a year since I finished that project.

I documented this in a thread back then, but having a hard time finding it...

Outer cover coming off . instead pushing inner cables it bend up not pushing throttle. I well take off in am see do your fix.

Glad to hear that your problem is most likely "solvable" by rebuilding the cable.

While I've got your attention, I noticed on your Profile page that you have entered your build number as 15760. This is incorrect.

The coach build number is the 4th through the 7th characters in your "Model No." found on your factory data plate. See photo below:

I put number on cab .The model 4372 learning . I got rv in tn. It was on form about 5 month ago the handy man. But lot work in it new camera monitor house water pump rebuilt both furnaces redid all furniture ,front end where he ran into deer new fog lights fixed rear end body work if weather will hold will paint this week new running light leds inside with dimmers .New flooring in bath room list goes on. The form been big help. Think you all. Will. Do pic when finshed

What about throttle cables for outboard motors? Would one of those work? They come in different lengths I believe.

As Doug says (if you can read shorthand), it's not the length that is hard to find - it's the correct cable end connectors. One end has to screw onto the CC-5 air cylinder (see the diagram in my earlier post). To the best of my knowledge, this properly threaded and correct diameter fitting is not available on any currently produced "engine control" cable. Some of the Bluebird guys tried cutting the end off a original (broken) Bendix cable, and attaching it to a new cable. It didn't work.

I have wondered about a hydraulic throttle, to replace air or Morse cable. Master cylinder and slave from a car clutch system. A company named Neal used to make these for hot rods and dune buggies.

OK my turn on the barrel. My throttle cable broke am driving by rope.i need a party number for the throttle cable for my 93 U280 with a Cummins 8.3. We are just East of Pal.yra Maine going to try to make it to Wilton not sure how that's going to go. Don't have my manual for the. Bendix air throttle. Will call FOT later I guess

Looks like "manual" control.

Had to do that once on I 10 when the Bendix air vent clogged (diagnosed the next day when I had time to tear into it). So throttle would not release. Like you, line to the front. A little complicated when maneuvering.
