37" Panasonic Plasma Replacement

In 2003 the coach came from FOT equipped with an optional 37" Panasonic Plasma.  I got out my trusty slide rule and ciphered that I just have room for a new 40" LED TV.  TV manufacturers are rapidly discontinuing 40" models.  Among the major name brands only Samsung seems to have a 40" in this year's lineup.  Several Samsung 40" TVs were too large by 1/4"  to 3/4" but a few would have fit.  We went with a Sony.  It's a 2016 model because that's the last year Sony made a 40" TV (now their smallest is 43"). 

The reason for the post is to say if you want to replace your 37" OEM and you do not want the expense of new cabinetry, the 40"'s are going away by and large.

BTW the OEM 37" is so heavy I could barely lift it and the new 40" is so light it's unbelievable.

We went through the same thing recently.  Replaced a 36 lb flatscreen with a 15 lb flatscreen.  But we found that there were quite a few 35-40" TVs available.  In that size they are in the "table top" section and are considered disposable items.

One thing you have to check is the location of the mounting holes on the back of the new TV, and how it will line up with the mounting bracket in the coach.  Most mounting plates require the mounting holes on the back of the TV to be centered between the top and bottom of the TV.  Not all TVs follow this standard.

We were looking at one brand of LED, and the mounting holes on the back were positioned on the lower 1/3 of the TV to be able not keep the top and sides thin, light weight, and not have a bezel around the edge. 

The problem with this is that is raised the location of the top edge of the TV by 1/3 the height of the TV.  We would have needed to cut a hole in the roof to mount it against the plate.
