Powertech Fuel Filter

I have a Powertech gen set.  There seem to be 4 filters: 1 air, 1 oil and 2 fuel.

The first fuel is in photo 1 below, and it is the Parker R12T co-located in the compartment with the genset radiator.  No issue there.

The second fuel filter is the orange filter shown in photo 2.  The part number on this filter is Fram PH3593A but it's actually an oil filter.  Is this the correct filter to use for the genset fuel?

Mark,
Do you have the manual for that generator?
That should have the correct fuel filter info.
If not is that a Koboto engine? Go visit them, or whoevers engine (Cummins)that is.
Maybe a call to PT would get the correct filter number.

Hi John.  It's a Kubota engine and unfortunately its manual is missing from my binder.

Looked on the PT and found this: Power Tech Diesel Generator - What Style Fuel Filter Do I Have?

The D04 filter appears to be similar in shape and size to the Fram that's currently installed.  I think I'll follow your suggestion and give PT a call.

It's in the Media section on the forum here, accessible via the Wiki start [ForeForums Foretravel Motorcoach Wiki]  under Chassis Systems technical:start [ForeForums Foretravel Motorcoach Wiki]

Also be aware - that Racor R12T, IIRC, is used for both the genset AND the AquaHot.  I believe the one in the genset coolant bay is actually the AquaHot fuel filter.  The Genset one I think is the one that hangs under the coach near the front axle...  (someone please correct me if my neurons are misfiring)

Mark,
That yellow filter in the front, when you find the NAPA version please let me know if it screws on easily. I have the manual for that generator. That won't help you because it is a custom FT made plate and location placement for the front filter. I had an issue screwing on the new filter from NAPA. It does match however it is very very difficult to start screwing it on. I am thinking to re-customize it to use more commonly available filter.

This is correct for my 2003 GV 295. I change them both at the same time.

Thanks - so Mark, that one in your photo is the AquaHot fuel filter, not one of the generator ones.

One more question:  is it normal for the gen sets to look as new as this one?  Almost looks new.

Michelle,
You are correct for the 2002, also.
At some point between 1998 and 2002, on all models of FT, the generator "roughing" filter was moved from up high on the curbside of the generator opening to behind the quiet box, centered, up high near the Aux. air tank.

Al,

The fuel filter you wanted to know about went on very easily.  However, the NAPA filter for the primary separator / filter was hard to start.  It seems the internal diameter of filter's threads is slightly smaller than the OD of the filter receiver (not sure what the part is called that the filter screws on to).  I tried twice and then stopped and compared the threads.  They appeared to be the same so I tried again pushing firmly straight up with my palm and then it started.  Once it started it was good.

Perhaps the Kubota secondary and the Parker primary are the way to go instead of NAPA for these items.  I like NAPA a lot but seems like their tolerances are a little off in this case.

I almost finished servicing the gen set.  Got the oil changed too but it started raining before I got to the air filter.  It took three start cycles before the air was out of the lines and filters.  Sure do like this PT gen set.  Sweet machine.

I had trouble with the NAPA filter for our Kubota powered power tech. In fact was not able to get it to work at all so went to a Kubota dealership and bought 2 fuel filters there and they fit on perfectly.

I use mostly WIX and they make NAPA filters. WIX are more readily available at lots of places besides just NAPA.

Fuel....................KUBOTA 70000-43081 (WIX wouldn't screw on easily and leaked)

Not for me, I have a problem with screwing on a NAPA brand filter for that fuel filter, it won't start.

I tried the NAPA filter leaked bad. finally took the old filter to Cummins.. the Threaded pipe is too short to reach the threads on the NAPA filter(filter threads are recessed into the filter a bit too deep) , and the gaskets were in the wrong place....You can see where the outer gasket needs to be

That is what I found the threaded nipple is not long enough, so I went to Kubota and bought the fuel filter from them and fits perfect.

Fleetguard FF42003 from the local Cummins dealer is the fuel filter on my kubota with the same filter mount. Approx. 800hrs on it so far. Im going to run it till it clogs or falls off, with all the hate for the Zytel plastic fuel filters, we know what it'll be.

I don't know anything about a Stens but the Kubota number 70000-43081 is the correct filter.
