gen. radiator

Got a leaking gen. radiator but can limp home,will check with atlas and some local shops then,anyone ever buy a new one?We have the 8kw isuzu 3 cyl engine.

               A  grey plastic bottle  of Bars liquid stop leak . Been there done that . Ended my problem for ever , well 7 years anyway without a recurring problem .            Brad Metzger

Second that on bars leak. Probably saved me thousands over the years in radiator repair.

We have the same generator. . .

Our radiator developed a leak because the whole radiator's weight was supported by two small double-bolt rubber mounts that were attached to the radiator's bottom tube.  Over time vibrations broke the ends of the soldered tube.  Our redesign was to remove the double-bolt rubber mounts and support the radiator from the strongest part of the radiator, its end cap seams.  To repair the leak, the broken tube ends were easily soldered closed.

We found no need to replace, which would probably broke again due to problematic mounting.  Our repair is holding just fine.

I bought mine from powertech but they were a lot cheaper a few years ago.

You can call them to try and get a cheaper price. I have been successful at it. I believe I talked with Rick Harper IIRC.

If / when my genset's radiator needs to be replaced I'll run hoses over to the defroster and use the main cooling system. I'll have the advantage of defrosting my windshield on cold mornings before I start driving. I'm not sure if I'll remove the fan blade from the genset though. Only the genset's engine is liquid cooled. The generator part is air cooled. I would have to give that some thought before removing the fan... I'm not suggesting anyone else should conduct these experiments.

A honda civic radiator is $36 online. a custom handbuilt aluminum radiator for my tug aircraft tow tractor was $475. Those powertech prices are wild!
