12-18 Hybrid gen set .

Pulled into my private CG for the night , it is hot as the dickens , thermometer on my door window shows  104 degrees .  Fire up the gen set , sounds good like always . Turn on AC units 1 and  4 . They come on making cold air , sit down to play a game of chess and the gen set turns off . Hmm, hit the start switch , fires up like always , three minuets or so shuts off again . Did this 4 or 5 times . I notice that the RPM is jumping up to 1680 and down to1000 then it shuts off . My gut says not getting fuel . This gen is in a quiet box and to get to the fuel filter the drivers side of it has to be removed  since the fuel filter is right there . Boy o boy is that a job . My hands are too big to get where they need to be in order to get the bolt studs out holding he cover panel . A metric size 10 open end is what it takes and a sixth of a turn is all you can get .No big deal except there are eight bolts to deal with . The other six are handy to do . Long story short --next time and every time thereafter in NAC --I'll gladly pay to have it done . Got it done . I fired up all 4 AC units to make sure . Works the way it is supposed to . happy again .  ;D  Brad Metzger

There is nothing like a hot job in 100 degree weather after a long day's drive.

Filter change ---did that January on way to quartzite . I change yearly but---fuel is some times interesting . I had just toped off a full tank , so maybe things got stirred up . I will always have a spare and fuss like an old man when  I have to change it . This is the first go round with a stopped up filter so maybe some luck involved . Hmm  :o  :o  :o    Brad Metzger      PS  , forgot to mention that the exact correct O'Nan filter was available at of all places  ---Speedco----

Maybe consider RTV in place of those 2 bolts.

Brad, could you rig up a remote filter in a more accessible location.

Remote location--outside the quiet box , you have been reading my mind . That was the very first thought I had when getting that side panel off . Yes , that is going to happen when back on the farm . Been making notes in my tablet on what to get and where to install . Filter will be bigger and a twist on off type . The small inline is just that small with not enough size in capacity  of  fuel . The inline filter that comes on it will hold only about a half a cup of fuel . I feel that to be way too small in the first place . This coach is 7 years old already and by the time it is 10 n, it should be right . ;D  Brad Metzger

Perma-Cool Fuel Filter and Water Separator Kits 84794 - Free Shipping on...

That filter base works perfectly with a filter I trust for diesel - a Caterpillar 1R-0750 2 micron diesel filter that is a popular duramax retrofit. I have been using the permacool bases on old tractors with obsolete or leaky fuel filters for years.

If you were going to retrofit a spin on filter outside the housing, that base with a few isolation valves to keep air out and fuel in the lines would be my choice. Mount it out of the way but somewhere easy to change and never worry about a clogged inaccessable filter again.

Very interesting- could this filter be used to remotely replace the secondary filter high up on the engine of my ISC350?  It is a 2 micron filter but what a pain to get to.......thoughts and experience would be appreciated.                ^.^d

The head i linked would not flow enough fuel. You would want a Perma-Cool Fuel Filter and Water Separator Kits 88864 - Free Shipping on... and a Caterpillar 1R-0749 filter, which is the same filter used stock on my 3176 cat.

Probably eaaier to pay someone to change the hard to reach filter rather than re engineer the system, since your stock filter is already up for the job, unlike the anemic gen filter.
