Slide Mechanism

OK.
The slide mechanism on my coach includes an angle steel bar that runs across the front of the slide. This is a 2001 U320. I am about to replace the carpet/pad that was approximately 1" (??) thick with vinyl that is about 1/8" thick +/_.  When the slide was retracted over the carpet, you could see a feint indentation of the edge of the slide on the carpet. I know, for a fact, that when I had to adjust my slide this spring at OTM, Issac had to lever the edge up before he tightened the bolts. MY QUESTION IS:
how could the carpet/pad take the weight of the slide ?? Surely, the lower surface of the angle iron will make better contact with the new floor for support over the vinyl than over the carpet/pad.??!!  I just don't want to tear up the new floor when I open/close the slide. I have read that someone had a wheel(s) installed or have used felt on the underside of the angle iron??!! Pictures would be GREAT. What type of wheel ? How was it installed? I will be receiving the vinyl next week, and will install the flooring.  I intend to close the slide over spacer blocks, then wedge the slide up when I remove the steel edge. I intend to modify the steel edge with whatever makes the most sense, then reinstall.  Any and ALL ideas are welcome. Thanks

I wanted to put in new flooring and david f took me to an 01 that had done so and the glide bar had scratched up the floor. On that generation slide Tim is leveled by the bar so it has a lot of weight on it as it comes in and out. The steel angled piece at the top is grabbed and the slide is pulled up when extended.  When going in or out the slide rests on that glide bar and you could try to put felt on it but eventually it will come off and cause scratches.  It is the design. The 02 had glide blocks and is much more friendly to solid surfaces.

Oh, his suggestion was to leave a bit of carpet for it to go in and out on then tile the rest.

Thanks for the reply. It is the most difficult part of the remodel. I hope I come up with a remedy.
