Little Problem with the Gray Water Valve

Hi folks,

We have finished up out time with the Alaska motorcade and are heading back down to the west coast.

Have encountered a problem with our gray water valve. Both valves, black and gray, were replaced at the last service visit at MOT in December. The valve handle pulls out easily when trying to empty the tank. Too easily. It apparently has come loose from the valve cable, as it will not open to empty the tank. My assumption is that some allen screw has loosened and released the cable, but am not sure until I can lay eyes on it.

I need to know the best way to gain access to this area. For reference, I have a 2007 Nimbus 340. I don't know what has to be removed or disconnected from the panel cover and, once disconnected or removed, how to open the panel cover. Do I need to remove the faucet? If so, do I shut off water at the manifold? What about the cable and telephone plugins--do they need to be removed? Do I need to re-caulk anything?

I tried to reach MOT while I had brief and rare cellular access earlier today, but everyone was at lunch. Left a message, but am hoping you guys might have some suggestions. I have heard we are not likely to get ANY cellular service for the next three days, but may have some internet (currently in Dease Lake, Canada).

Motorcade was great, by the way!

Our coach is older but all of the utilities that are mounted to the wet bay panel have extra tubing or wire.  Extra cable tv wire, extra phone wire, extra hot n cold tubing.  Makes it easy to remove n repair things.    You will want to re caulk the panel but it could wait until convenient.

I would think it is the same as ours were on the older ones. Behind the water bay panel.

Sounds like I just remove the two or three screws in the panel and pull it away. I agree that any caulking can wait. Will give it a try tomorrow night when we get into Stewart, British Columbia. Supposed to have sewer hookups there.

Thanks, guys. Keep any suggestions coming!

Don,

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems so soon after we split.  Yes, you'll have to take the whole rear panel in the wet bay off.  That means removing the faucet-best to just turn water off in the coach.  The biggest problem in my coach was getting the soap dispenser out of the way.  The cable connection to the sewer valve is right down in the bottom, so you'll need room to work.  Don't count on having extra wire length to work with the panel loose but in place.  Take lots of pictures as you go.  I'm sure you'll just have to re-attach the cable and tighten a set screw, but it's getting to that point that takes the effort.

Good luck.

Brett

Consider this mod while you have the bay access apart

Wet Bay Access Hatch

It would let you reattach the cable (or replace tank sensors, etc.) in the future without as much disassembly.
