Mud flap mounting hole wearing through

The stainless rubber backed mud flap is held by 2 anchoring points using threaded oval screw clamps mounted between the frame and the steel bar attached to the mud flap.    The hole in the steel bar is wearing through pretty bad and ready to bust thru.  Any recommendations on replacment with a more reliable mount to avoid the risk of bye bye mud flap?

Hi Fiddler,

You might take it to a welder to him add metal to the area what is wearing through. That is what I did. Should be good for another 10 years.

Take the flap off and move the holes over about 1" and replace. No one will notice it being offset.

I took the bar off, turned it upside down and drilled new holes.  Good for another 15 years.

We drilled new holes, used two oval connectors on each side, four in total.  Redundancy is the best way to eliminate the bye byes.  Never felt safe with just two mounting points, if one broke, it would be a big mess and danger to following traffic.

When we had an SOB we left our mudflap at the intersection of I-8 and I-5 at rush hour. At the next RV park someone asked if we were going back to get it. Not a chance!

We drilled new holes and went from 1/2 chain link to 5/8 clevis connectors. It cuts down on the swaying back and forth of the flap and less wear metal to metal.
