VMSpc & M11 Celect Plus question

1998 U-320 with M11 Celect Plus

Searched the archives here, and on the Silverleaf site.

I've seen posts about the VMSpc software not being able to read the retarder temperature on the M11 Celect Plus engines.

Is this still the case, or have people with M11 Celect Plus engines been able to get VMSpc to display retarder temperature information?

Same question about oil pressure and temperature.  Is the M11 ECU able to provide oil pressure and oil temperature information to VMSpc?

Thank you,
Chris

Chris,
You can also use the ScanGauge D for a lot less $$ than the SilverLeaf.

» ScanGauge D

They have it for sale at PPL Motorhomes.

Thank you for the replies confirming VMSpc and the M11

John,

Thank you.  Yes I have been looking at both.  I've used the ScanGauge II on a Sprinter based coach and loved it.

What I like about the ScanGauge D is the smaller size, less cabling and devices, and not needing a power cable.  But... there is less confirmed information about what gauges it will report with the M11 Celect Plus.

I called the folks at ScanGauge and asked if the ScanGauge D would report oil pressure, oil temperature, and retarder temperature for the M11 Celect Plus

They said no to retarder temperature, but said they weren't sure about oil pressure and oil temperature for the M11 Celect Plus.

The four main gauges I am interested in having accurate readings for are:
- engine coolant temp
- transmission temp
- engine load
- retarder temp

If anyone has the ScanGauge D and the M11 Celect Plus and can verify if it shows these I would appreciate it.

I'm not interested in graphs, MPG, trip times, etc.

Chris

The rmpg function of the silverleaf over a long term looking at it and its changes helped me to diagnosis that Foretravel put in a overkill, power robbing hydraulic fan controller that was using maybe 40hp at 60 mph and 1250 rpm.

Entire industry uses a 199 degree full speed dynanetic hydraulic fan controller.

Foretravel used a 180 full on controller.

Two giant fans locked on high if the motors warm.

So what I am saying is if you are not wanting to be a student of what's happening under your hood versus do not want to know the details like most the simpler unit should be fine.

I spent $500 for the silverleaf and hp steam 11 notebook.

Best money I have spent on the coach.

Three separate trip meters I use on screen.

A 10k mile long term.  A total current trip and a reset per tank.

My two cents.

Not sure where Foretravel hooked up my trans temp gauge.  Sump or retarder.  May ask as its in the shop for the brakes

The VMSpc reads them in our 1995 U320 M11.

I have a VMSpc and a 1998 M11.  I can read oil pressure, oil temp and transmission temp.

I do not get a reading for retarder temp.  possibly I just do not have something set correctly.  I have tried the "retarder temp button, but nothing reported.

I have a scangauge D, but there is more data on VMSpc.

Edit: I bought the scan gauge first and upgraded to VMSpc.  I would buy the VMSpc  rather than scan gauge if I did it again

VMSpc should display all of these values.  The retarder temp is a standard gauge now in the latest versions. In earlier versions you have to make the gauge with the correct PID (data channel).

You have no idea what you are missing until you actually see the data.  Recent MPG helps you see the effects of wind, terrain, speed and your driving habits. It is a rolling average over several minutes so it makes more sense.
