Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #1 – August 18, 2017, 09:37:55 am It does on our '03 42' double slide. We lift at the foot of the bed. If the struts are not working the bed is very heavy. Quote Selected
Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #2 – August 18, 2017, 09:57:51 am There is a lock on the bed, mine is in the middle at the foot of the bed. Quote Selected
Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #3 – August 18, 2017, 02:23:20 pm On ours the base is screwed down. Have to remove the screws to remove the base plate after removing the mattress. A real PITA. Quote Selected

Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #7 – August 19, 2017, 01:02:56 pm Scott,The small lock is at the foot of the bed, right in the middle (left and right) attached to the bed's plywood sheet and vertical bed plywood frame. There is a squeeze lever to release the lock. You may have to unsnap the middle snap pf the skirt (left to right at the foot of the bed of the skirt) to see it. Then it just a matter of lifting the plywood sheet. The gas struts may be weak so I have a 3-4 foot stick stored under the bed I use to keeping the bed supported when it is up (in the corner). Clear as mud, huh! Jim2002 U320 42' Quote Selected 1 Likes

Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #10 – August 19, 2017, 07:30:32 pm Scott,Really, screwed in? That's hard to believe they wouldn't allow easy access to the top if the engine. Do you see screw heads on the top of the plywood sheet? Maybe it is just stuck from not having been opened for a while.Perhaps it best described as just under the sheet of plywood. You should be able to feel it by running your hand there - right in the middle (left and right). What is your coach build number? Jim2002 U320 Quote Selected

Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #16 – August 23, 2017, 09:25:39 am No there is no access to the bed. It has multiple screws holding it down the slide mechanism and the transfer switch and three drawers are under there. No room to put much. The progressive is there too. Quote Selected 1 Likes
Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #17 – August 23, 2017, 01:31:23 pm Looking at installing another sub panel for the L16s, inverter and charger that will be dedicated to the refer and sat stuff. Also want to connect 110vac engine block heater that MOT did not connect to the red switch. 😃 Quote Selected
Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #18 – August 23, 2017, 01:41:12 pm Scott,Not a bad idea to leave the block heater UNPLUGGED in the summer. Too easy to accidentally hit the switch at the base of the bed and turn it on. Uses a lot of power if left on 24/7! Quote Selected 3 Likes

Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #21 – August 23, 2017, 02:16:05 pm Plenty of room under the bed, I am going to put a 300 watt inverter there and move fwd tv, etc circuit from main inverter panel to the small inverter and be able to secure the main inverter if I do not need it. Quote Selected

I think Brett's idea to prevent accidental use is great. Perhaps an easy way to implement it is to add a switch cover so it doesn't get turned on unintentionally. Quote Selected 4 Likes

Re: 42' under bed access? Reply #24 – August 23, 2017, 07:29:30 pm There would be room for another sub panel under there but that first gen Alice takes a lot of it and you have to manuver it around every to get into it. The plug you can reach from the back drawer if your take it out and put a light on it I think. I left mine unplugged in the summer and plugged it in during the winter. Truth be told I used the AH and never needed to plug it in much. If I had electric, I just ran the 110 switch on the AH and the engine assiste heat too. Worked exactly the same. Quote Selected
