The San Fernando Valley where I am at. was the center of racing for awhile. Marv at A1 was a mile from me so was B&M, P.A.W a mile from B.&M. Don Prudhomme same block as P.A.W. Ed Pink is still here. Tommy Ivo was 5 miles from me. The old San Fernando Raceway was my younger stomping grounds then Lyon's, O.C. raceway and Irwindale and finally Los Angeles County Raceway. They are all gone now.

Electric rollers to start the dragsters instead of push starting them down the track.

Yea I ran them at times. plus held the stake money in match races between stone, woods and cook and "big John Mazmaniam  in AAGS.

Miss motormouth Larry Huffman the track announcer. Are you a Chevy fan? Are you a ford fan?.  Are you a dodge fan?

 miss the giant cloud of tire smoke and burning eyes from the nitro.

Watched a fueler bike go through the eyes of the right lane and the rider through the left lane. He lived to tell the story. Watched Evel jump there also.

One night a digger did this huge burn out at Lions, like 1/2 track. I thought to myself, "how are they going to push that thing back". This is when they had to hand push them back to the starting line. He sat there a couple of minutes, then all of a sudden he starts backing up on his own. It was one of the 1 st reverser's. Blew my mind!

Oh yes, the Odd Couple dragster. I asked Leo Dunn once, why would you put a big block Chrysler Hemi, and a small block Chevy together in a race car. He told me so the big Hemi would give you the torque off the line, and the small block Chevy would twist the Hemi's RPM's up at the finish line. It did, and it worked.
If only we had innovation like that today. But nope, we get to watch the same 8 cars race the same 8 cars with NHRA. Not only that, slow guy races faster guy 1st round. read $$$$$$$$$ is the winner......Yawn.
Here is the newly restored Leo Dunn dual engine BB Chevy dragster. it was displayed at the Sonoma race (once my home track), next to my good friend Steve Castelli's "Hot Rod Willys" . Leo was a friend. I actually sponsored the car for a while with my van shop.

BTW ......Steve's Willy's was used in the movie "Hot Rod". If you never seen the movie you should. Steve now owns most the cars used in the movie. The 40 ford panel was his for years. Use to see it at the donut shop. He also has another Yellow Willy's that is a street rod
Front of Steve's shop with our Harley sitting there. His place has been in Hot Rod magazine twice. Quite the place.
