Oil amd Fuel Filters DD6V92

Would anyone have a list of the filters required for an oil  (and fuel filter) change for the Detroit 6V92, as well as opinions on the brand of filters?

Here are the filters you need. NAPA filters are WIX and excellent. Filters for the 1989 (split from another topic)  Buy at a truck shop and save $$ over a NAPA store. Make sure to get the new plastic see through drain that goes on the bottom of the primary filter (the one frame mounted) Check your air filter restriction gauge. Don't try and clean it, just spend the $65 plus for a new one. Remove and check O rings on the frame mounted hand pump. I don't know where the frame mounted pump is on your earlier model. Ours in on the right side down low on the frame. Rings are $0.10/each at NAPA. Replace primary and tighten, replace secondary and leave a turn loose and then use hand pump to fill the spin-on filters until all the air is out of the secondary. Use big freezer bag to collect overflow diesel. It should start right up. If not crank for 20 seconds at a time but don't use ether. Buy 7 gallons of Delo 100, SAE 40. You will use 5.5 gallons. Never Delo 400 or any multi-grade in the main engine.

I just wanted to add a point and ask another question:

The PO, among other sins, used Dello 400 15w-40w. Upon initial inspection, I thought nothing of it because when I ran petroleum oils in my diesels, I used Dello 400. THEN, zi discovered this forum and other DD forums where it was emphatically stated that ONLY Dello 100 40w should be used. I do not know how many miles the engine was subjected to multi-grade. I do know that the oil was new and clean when I took possession of the coach, and it still was when I drained to switch to Dello 100.

Any thoughts on the damage caused the engine by this malfeasance? Is there anything I should do or be looking for? Oil analysis, etc.?

Probably over a thousand owners have made the same mistake. Always good to do an oil analysis after you buy a coach, especially if not sure about it's history. I have included some JPGs from accelerated tests but in the light duty the coach sees, I would just use the Delo 100, do one analysis and enjoy it. Think there may be no damage to speak of. A lot of trucks are up against the fuel cutoff with heavy loads all the time. This is where the Deli 100 is the most important.

You do not have to run specifically Delo  100
But you do need to run straight 40 wt that meets 2 stroke diesels specs.  There are other oil manufacture that meet this spec. With this said I run Delo100 because I can purchase it through O Reilly auto stores locally and they are pretty much everywhere now and can get it overnite usually. Keep in mind to carry a spare case when traveling as you cannot just stop and pick up a gallon.
I doubt your engine has suffered any damage.  I would think it would take quite a few thousands of miles and the damage would just cause premature engine overhaul due to significant wear on bearings and piston thrust faces. If you have about 10psi at idle hot, and 40 or so at highway speed that's in the normal range.  If way lower than that you could have some bearing wear. Now that you are aware if the requirement with the oil  continue to use it going forward. You should be fine. ^.^d

Stump is quite correct, Delo 100 does have the lowest ash content. Shell Rotella is on the borderline of ash content but it and others will work fine. Just look up SAE #40 ash content. I change every 10K or once a year.

My engine total mileage since new is only 86K and my oil pressure is 30psi+ at idle. So I will consider this a "dodged bullet" and keep an eye on the oil analysis.

Does this apply to the 4 stroke engines also, the PO of the coach I am looking at said they used DE 10.  I take it that they ment Delo 100 maybe?

No, Delo 100 is strictly for 2 strokes.

For 4 stroke engines, Delo 400 15-40 or Shell Rotella T 15-40 are common choices.


Sorry, no idea what DE 10 is/stands for.
