Interesting Coach at MOT

2002 Foretravel U270 34' Priced at $ 73500

Again, forgive my inexperience.  I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on this coach's drivetrain set up.  34 ft. U270 with a 400hp ISL and Allison MH 3000R 6 Speed.  I haven't seen that combo before and why not the 4000 class transmission?  Still learning here.  Price looks reasonable.

Later model Allison 3000's are approved for the HP/torque if the Cummins ISL.  That IS the correct transmission for the ISL in RV applications.

I think it's kinda like GM engines and transmissions.  With the GM "small block" engines (302, 327, 350) you got the TH350.  With the GM "big block" engines (402, 427, 502) you got the TH400.  Same thing with Cummins diesels.  I guess the 8.9 liter ISL (which was based on the iconic C8.3) even at 400hp is still considered a "small block" diesel engine, so it got the 3000R tranny.  Once it grew to almost 11 liters in the Cummins ISM11, they finally started fitting the stronger 4000 series Allison.

I bet that 34' "Shortie" with 400 hp and 1200 pound-foot of torque would be a pretty peppy ride!  34' with no slide would be even better...  8)

If you can visualize yourself using that exact floor plan then that is a fairly rare coach.  Two house batteries limit it's dry camping abilities but most travel from power pedestal to power pedestal.

As much of solar as the roof allows may help that.

I feel it would be tight using it with the slide retracted as it has that counter sticking out. Other than that, I like it. I would never extend the slide for fear of it never retracting or needing a $$$$ bladder. I tend to move around quite a bit and have never been a fan of slides.

I was in that coach today.  It is a little tight with the slide closed.  I am pretty good sized and it was OK to move by it.

That's a very interesting coach. Whike it has less storage space than we need, it could be perfect for the right couple. Should be an excellent performer on the highway!
