Multilevel Storage in Overhead Bins

Although the bins that run overhead around the coach are wide they are tall enough to benefit from some type of bi or tri-level vertical "shelves" for storage.

We're open to ideas, especially those that don't require "construction" 😀.

Randy, almost every overhead in our coach has been customized for two level, books or other things.  All have LED lighting controlled by door actuated proximity switches.







3/8 and 1/4" baltic birch plywood with cherry trim.

I thought about making kits for these but I just don't have enough FT nearby as examples for fit.  They are not all the same.

Randy, take some measurements and then go looking for storgage containers.  Most with covers stack and they make an easy way to sort, organize and contain stuff.  Most of what we use came from a local $1 store.  They are cheap enough to just try and usually you can take back what doesn't work. 

We have a bunch of shallow (maybe 2-1/2" deep) plastic $1 store basket/tray that are big enough to hold normal sheets of paper.  We put them on the shelves of the refrigerator and put things in them.  Whatever is in the rarely tips over since it is supported by the rest of the stuff and the basket and the baskets don't slide around.  And when you can just pull a basket out with the stuff in it.

We seem to have a lot of cords, chargers, nav devices, ear things, camera bits etc.  I have all of the Apple cord/chargers in a labeled zip lock bag, another for my walkie talkie charger and cords, another for the Garmin stuff, another filled with ear things, another with micro USB cables and more bags and then all of the bags in a basket.  It helps me find stuff.  All I have to do is remember to put them back where they belong.

Some of my shelves went through a couple iterations before the size was right.  We still use the basket/trays on/under the shelves for organizational reasons.  So they need to fit and you have to be able to get them in and out.  So knowing what and how you want to store stuff comes first.  Then shelves.

None of this happens right away.  Don't hesitate to completely reorganize everything inside and in the basement, definitely after a year or so.  You will start seeing different ways of doing things.

Roger and Susan are correct,
You have to live in your coach a bit, especially your wife in the kitchen area. We have rearranged stuff several times and I have just about got my kitchen where I like it. You will find that you have packed stuff you never use and invariably have left something behind. In the kitchen area I have duplicated some things I use daily to keep from having to drag them in and out between seasons. We are going to rearrange the storage compartments at least one more time if not two.  I am going to borrow on the ideas presented here for the overhead storage. I see where I can make an improvement or two.  It is never a bad idea to clean out the cupboards and spaces at least once a year to chase out the dust bunnies.
