Oily drip from front left wheel well

It started when I started the engine and was doing pre-trip checks. It wasn't there before.  Decided to take the car instead, and had to hit the road so I didn't look at it very closely.    But can anybody tell me what possible oily fluids would be coming from the front left wheel well? What should i tell a mechanic to investigate?

Lots of truck stops in this area, but no large motorhomes service centers close enough that I would be comfortable driving driving it to with a leak

Have your mechanic check the steering gear. Possible seal leak.

If it didn't start leaking until you started the engine, the steering gear as mentioned above would be the only source of oil in the drivers wheel well. If it was very cold it might slow down after warming up.

Thanks so much guys.

If it's a slow leak, and I have power steering when I turn it on, can I drive it 15 miles to the truck stop?  Or is that too risky, and I need to get someone to come to me?

Top off the hydraulic reservoir.  Then drive 5-8 miles.  Stop and check it.

None of us know the size of the leak.  But suspect you can you CAN make it your 15 miles.

Yes, have the correct fluid on hand-- most take Delo 400 15-40 which you can find at most Walmarts and most autoparts houses.
