Park brake follow up

I finally slowed down and read my Operators manual AGAIN. Under general specs, brakes, I found  it reads: Parking - 3' x 12" Drum Style Driveline style, lever controlled, spring applied, hydraulic release, just like Bret and the rest of you folks tried to tell me(but NO, I already had it figured hydraulic BOTH ways... Gonna put new Toyo's on Monday(2005's on now, look brand spankin' new w/ no visable cracks) and see if they can figure why park does not hold.

I had that same problem.. Mine ended up being the rear disk was separated from the axle.. actually sheared all the way around.. it held the disc in place but the axle still was able to turn. Once the brake put pressure on it , it froze.. only 1 side was holing and it crept forward. Good luck

Jim's parking brake is on the driveshaft, just behind the transmission.

Start by checking shoe adjustment. Could also be that someone drove with the brake applied and burned up the shoes.

I also had that style on the 225 Oshkosh and had to get under and adjust the setting as linings had worn past setting and would not hold. I had to allways run outside after parking and put a rock against tires to hold it overnight when parked, especially if jacks were not needed for levelling.

John,

The U225 is a Unihome, not on an Oshkosh chassis.

That's  what happened to my parking brake. I replaced the shoe.

Can you back up and hit the brakes? For adjustment?

My manual indicates that is a  Yes... But I gather that only applies to service brakes??

Yes that only works for service brakes. There will be an adjustment on the parking brake itself but it will be manual.

I believe there is a star wheel adjustment at the bottom of the brake shoes. Probably got driven with brake applied.
