Mixed Batterys

I am  having issues with the flooded batteries and corrosion, etc in my battery compartment. I bought 2 New 8D AGM batteries last weekend. I will buy another  8D AGM to go with them and install in my original battery tray. Trying to get away from the corrosion and associated demons of flooded battery's. But I still have 3 good 8D flooded batteries,
 I'm thinking of selling them Or If I were to build a new battery rack  behind the rear tire in the engine compartment out in the open etc. would the flooded batteries an the AGM be compatible using them as extra house batteries? Which would give me a total of 6 with 5 being house. Relocated I do not think I would have a corrosion issue.

I Don't know that's why I am asking, Being I am the packrat, Let's see if we could maybe do this kind of guy, I'm asking. Otherwise  I have a good deal on 3 8D batteries. perfect shape

Stump what are you charging the batteries with? Makes a huge difference.

Right now I have a progressive  charger convertor with the charge wizard. when I am plugged in and the stock alternator when engine is running. I am looking at maybe adding solar panels later. But right now that's what I have.

I hang on to my old batteries.  I have an original 2001 Gel 8D from my coach.  It tests barely OK.  I hook it up to a motor generator (2 12v motors turning a 120v generator) from 1979 when I built ambulances.  These supplied PSW stable power for medical equipment.  We also used them in campers that we built.

I put the battery and the motor generator on a small trailer behind the tractor and can go out in the woods with my electric chainsaw.  About the time the battery poops out so do I.

You could take your flooded batteries and charge them with a couple 300 watt solar panels.  A small inverter will run critical stuff in the house if the power goes out.  Lots of fixed solar installations use flooded batteries.  Three 8Ds and a 1500 watt inverter would run my chainsaw a lot longer than I could.

I would put the old 8D's on Craigslist for $100 each and be done with them.

AGM and flooded cells charge up at pretty much the same voltage according to my Lifeline leaflet. The only difference it seems is the Equalizing times and needs. I have for the house 3 lifeline AGMs and one MK Gell (all 8Ds) I dropped my alternater charge rate a few years ago to 13.6 v and these have been operating ok I think since mating them up over a year ago. My batteries all get charged by solar most of the time and that is set to a custom charge rate. The AGMs are 6 yrs old so hope they last 4 more. I also hooked them to Bus Bars 4 yrs ago so power is not running thru them but individually to the bars.
Have not run out of power while boondocking so figure all might be ok.Whats a few "bucks" for new ones anyway life is too short to worry the small stuff.

I think that is my best way to go also ,I am replacing to get away from the messing with them in the first place. Moving them to another place and having to mess with them does not make sense does it  ::) . I have enough small things I want to do to this thing without adding more to my list

Sell the old 8D's Stump- remember they are 160 pounds each.  Why carry that much extra weight when you could use that capacity for important things like PBR?

I stored 3 wet 8 d's in my shop and sat them on 4 by 4's. They still ate holes in my concrete floor. I gave them away just to keep them from eating my place down. Never will be another one in my coach or other equipment.
