Just joined

We've had 2 Newells, a 39' and 2 slide 45'.  Fulltimed in the 45' and enjoyed the Newell experience.  When we were shopping and researching we seriously considered Foretravels as we ranked them close to Newell quality.  I do most of my maintenance and repairs so am familiar with coach systems, at least on the Newells.
We sold the 45' 3 years ago when we bought a S&B.  Last year we bought a 2004 26' LazyDaze class C thinking we'd enjoy traveling in a much smaller motorhome.  And it is nice for shorter trips but next year we're planning a 5-6 month trip to Alaska.  So now we're thinking of selling/trading it in for a 36' Foretravel.  Not sure if we want a slide or not.  Leaning towards no slide to have a simpler coach.
So I guess we'll have to visit Mel at MOT soon and see what they have coming in.
We're in Louisiana near Baton Rouge.

Hi and welcome!
To slide or not, that is the question? We love not having a slide. Same reason you gave for considering it, "simplicity". There is more than enough to maintain without it. With your experience that should not be a problem.

We also like being able to stop anywhere and have full use of the coach without needing to extend a slide. For us 36' is big enough to be comfortable but not so large to drive. Besides, where we park when not traveling would not easily fit anything larger without driving over the neighbors yard.

Happy hunting for your best coach.

  Welcome, Bro!
FWIW, we're also of the "no slide" frame of mind.  For just the two of us, it works just fine.  We have plenty of room without, less components to worry about and the DW can go from front to rear with out needing her stick.
  Good hunting.

X2......In older Parks, there is not much room side to side, we've seen many people with slides have big problems!

We're at Raccoon Valley Escapees park just north of Knoxville. I'm VERY glad we don't have slides here. I'm actually too close to the power pole and I don't have enough room on the "front" to have our carpet all the way out. The people across the way have a four-slide 5'er and have NO "yard" to sit in.

On the other hand, the two co-ops we've visited, The Ranch and The Alamo, both had lots that were plenty big for slides. Depends on what sort of campsites you like. Missouri State parks have plenty of room for slides. Minnesota varies.

Hi
We are the couple that popped in the 40 footer and met the Foreforums gang on Tuesday. Welcome to the forum. Previous Lazy Daze (no slide) SOB.
I am a no slide kinda guy also. Plus you lose almost all of the "bus style" bay doors if you go with a slide. They are great for narrow fuel lanes at truck stops and they look cool. I vote no slide.

Hi F, it was fun visiting with you at MOT looking at coaches.  There is a lot to see and take in.  It was good to see both a couple of slide coaches and one non-slide coach.  You were able to see how floorplans make space more usable in a non slide coach.  A 36 ft non-slide coach will be different from the 40' we looked so if you can find one to see go take a look.

Best of luck searching.  When you find the right on grab it because 36' no slides are not as common as the 40s.

Nice to meet you too, Ed and Michele.  Enjoy your extended stay in NAC.  The parks and bike trails are nice.

I saw smoke in the morning, I saw that thing and smelled that thing in the afternoon and drooled all the way to Livingston.  Then we put new LED headlight bulbs in Rudy's car and sent him on his way.  It is a great day when we can lend a hand.  Great to meet you and Cindy.  Come to MN in your new(ish) FT.

Well we did it.  Signed papers at MOT today on a 1999 36' U320 with full body paint.  We're spending the weekend in it at MOT.  Monday they have a couple things to finish up then we'll head home by Wednesday.
Thanks for all the advice and well wishes, I think we're gonna like it here.
