Removing Wooden Entry Assist Handle

Howdy Y'all:

I am trying to remove the wooden entry assist handle that is located inside the coach, by the front door. Looking at the handle assembly, It consists of two long pieces of wood. One has three hand holds along its length; it appears to be attached to the longer board, from its back side (inaccessible while the longer piece is attached to the wall).

On my Foretravel, there are two wooden buttons on that long board, that hide very long screws; one is at the bottom, and one in the middle. Near the top, where a third screw might be located, I have a black "map light" attached, possibly with two-sided tape. I have tried to remove the map light mount, but it seems to be firmly attached. Does anyone know if there is a third screw under it, and how to remove the light mount?

With the middle and lower screws removed, I expected to feel some give when pulling on the handle, but I could detect no such looseness. Has any one removed their wooden handle? How is it attached?

What I actually want to accomplish is to run a pair of wires above the door to provide stairway lighting to both sides. Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As an incentive to contributions, the five best suggestions will earn the providers with a place on my "when I hit the lottery list."

Thanks,

Trent, you are correct there is an third screw behind the map light base plate, but I can't remember if the map base cover slid up or it was pry off.

Trent. when I put led's strip lighting under both sides of the slide side giudways to light up the stairs, I took a feed off the original little light and ran a wire behind the side wall then back into well in line with the underside of guide. I glued on the led strip on the left side then ran wires again under the  end of guides to the right side and put another strip of led's on that side. No wiring shows and the lights work perfect. I did post a picture of them working about a yr ago.
