Removing GV side radiator

Was time to r&r the radiator on our 92 U300. So I will do my best to document the r&r. have a leak in the upper pan and rather then put a bandaid on it I decided to pull it after 26 years.  Will keep you all updated with my progress.

I did this a year ago - having a motorcycle lift from Harbor Freight (less than $100) really helped remove, lift and position the radiator, but I think mine was a bit heavier.

Is that upper bracket broken on the left side or just the angle from which the picture is taken?

Jason it is the angle, however the bracket is bent for some reason.

Nasty!  How was that thing not leaking like a sieve?  Could you see any of that corrosion looking at it before it was removed, or was it all on the back (hidden) side?  Just hoping mine is not in the same condition...

Chuck that area was hidden by the shroud, while doing my inspection at different times I did notice some flaking, and yes I agree it should have been leaking. We have a big radiator shop here in Billings. It goes in tomorrow will see what they say.

I have to admit is was easier than I thought, that hardest part was the prep work. I did not want to disturb the hyd fan system. So I took some 1/4 inch plate and clamped it to the frame and slide the fan assembly towards the engine.
The fan shroud was taken off first and the the rail the the fan motor is monted to stayed intacted.
I have the big single fan.

This is a good time to check your fan motors for leaks.  If you are to ever rebuild them, this would be the time, while they are exposed.

Hope you had help pulling that thing out of there!

Had mine done 7 years ago. Remove, re-core, and reinstall 3K. Hopefully your re-core won't hurt that bad.

Keep us up to date on your progress.

As a side note for those of you that might do want to check out your radiators, what I learned was that over time you can get what they call fin rot. You take your finger and slide it over the fin and if flakes off with lite pressure further inspection might be needed.
It's a time thing along with rode salt and dirt.
