Chirping alarm in 1995 U280, any ideas

We are  connected to 30amp shore power, and continue to have a chirping.  We have tested the hydro flame alarm, disconnected it, reconnected it and  we still have chirping.  We have turned off all the power to the rig and we still have chirping.  We turned on the engine, still chirping.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Lisa

Lisa,

Using your ears, have you located the source of the noise?

Is it from the under-dash alarm?  Propane detector? Smoke alarm? Other?

It is chirping over the dinette, kitchen area from the best we can tell.

C02 or Smoke alarm would be my guess. 

My C02 alarm chirped when my house batteries were going bad - low voltage problem.  Just a thought.

Or, could be a battery-powered smoke alarm with batteries going bad - kinda like happens in your house.

When we tested the CO monitor we could still here the intermittent chirping with the test alarm going off so thinking it is something different than the CO monitor.  We changed the battery in the smoke alarm.  Still Chirping.... UGH!

I unhooked the co2 alarm and it kept at it till I finally figured out there was one in the bathroom and another by the floor on the kitchen cabinet

I would either disconnect the C02 monitor and then reconnect it, or maybe disconnect the house batteries and reconnect them and see if either one of those actions changed anything.  Worth a try.

Where in the bathroom and kitchen cabinet did you find the other detectors?

Do your propane appliances work?  Water heater or furnace, for instance?  The propane detector was designed to shut off the propane.  If it is false tripping, it will have stopped supplying propane.  Obviously don't test this if you smell propane but that could be where your chirp is coming from.  As I recall, mine was in the bathroom, close to the floor.

We found the LP detector, and it has yellow light on it noting fault and nothing happens when pressing the test button, my husband is disconnecting it.  It quit beeping.  When he reconnected it , the light came back green, but is not staying green..  We are getting warmer to the fix.  YAY!  Thank you for getting me on the floor searching for a detector.

We are good now, my husband re installed the LP detector.  We had previously turned off the propane so he turned the propane back on and we were able to light the stove.  So all is working well now.  We just did a 750 mile drive on very rough roads from Anchorage to Haines, Alaska.  So things got jostled around quite a bit.  Next month we will be doing 4000 more miles to get to Arizona, hopefully the roads will be better.  Thank you all for your suggestions.

Be aware that propane detectors have a finite life.  Probably time for a new one.

In my opinion, eliminate the shut off valve. Just replace with a sniffer only.Source of issues, and when they go out, no LP....Easy to do

I tested my LP and smoke detectors with a butane lighter and smoke from my pipe and I could not set them off but I used to button to test then they would work.  I their life spans are  5 to 7 years. I took them out and looked at the date on the back and all 3 of the detectors were dated 1997 when my coach was built.  This was in January of 2018, so it is best to take them out and look at how old they are even if the test button work.
