Safe

My coach is equipped with a Meilink safe, for which I found combination information in the coach documentation, but after several tries, have failed to open. Would anyone be able to suggest how to go about this. Perhaps I am not following the combination instructions correctly.

Get someone else to interpet the directions your probably just reading it differently,different set of eyes.

Prior to starting to enter your combination, do you rotate dial in opposite direction? Instructions are not clear on starting point.

Ours you go at least 4 rounds counter clockwise before stopping on the 1st number.

On some safes, after you peg the last number you have to turn the dial 1/4 to 1/2 turn to the left until it stops (or right depending on the configuration) which pulls the pin back.

On almost all combination safes, turn the dial at least four rotations to the first number.  These rotations should be in the direction such that the numbers are increasing.  This would normally be counter-clockwise.  After stopping on the first number, go back the other way passing the second number twice and stopping on it on the third time around.  Then reverse directions again stopping on the third number after two rotations.  Then reverse again to zero (or slightly past zero).  Then try the handle.

So it is basically four times to the first number, three times to the second number, two times to the third number then back to zero.

I tried to open one the other day and was not able to, but my wife did it on the first try. She had experience with a safe at her work that she had to open every day, so don't give up.

Try what is listed in post 5. That is correct. I worked in the banking and retail business for years and have set many a combo on ATM's and vaults. One more tip if it doesn't open. Check to see that the indexing ring is not loose. That is the stationary ring behind the dial with the line on it. If it is loose it can drift your combo. If it is tight then try the combo several times dialing the combo one digit higher on all numbers and also one digit lower on all numbers. If someone spins the dial hard and fast it can cause the combo to drift. Hope this helps.

Also the last turn is not necessarily to zero. You just turn it until it stops. That last turn pulls the locking mechanism back.

One final tip, do not spin the dial, turn it deliberately and smoothly.

When I bought our coach, the owner said he'd lost the combo to the safe. When I finally found it, I thought, 'Oh joy, diamonds, rubies, loads of cash!"  Nope, he must have spent it all on the fresh paint job!
