Allison Computer

We got in our 1995 Foretravel U280 this morning to take a spin. Didn't make it out of the shop. It started first time but would not go into gear. I killed the motor hoping it would reset, but after that, it would not start at all. Made a call to James Triana at Foretravel and with his help, we checked several wires on the electrical panel to see if we had power. General consensus is that possibly the Allison computer that sits under the driver's dash board, has gone out.  Has anyone had this problem and what's the fix for it? James said there was a place in Longview we could take it to be checked, but being a holiday weekend, it will have to wait until next week.

Ed,

We will need more information if we are to assist:

When you turn on the ignition what happens:
Allison shift pad does/does not light up?  If so is it "snake eyes" or N?

What else that should only work with the ignition on does/does not work-- things like dash HVAC fan?

What is voltage at the dash (either with voltmeter or even the dash gauge)?

When I turn on the ignition, the instrument panels light up. The voltage meter reads just under 12. The fan motor works. The shifter shows two cat eyes at the top.
Do you have the name of a person who checks out or rebuilds the ECM Computer Module?
Thanks!

Allison ECU and shift pad repair. 866 439 9779 John Kopalek

But, start by unplugging and replugging gang connector(s) at both shift pad and ECU.

Another Allison ECU rebuilder is ECU King, Santa Fe, TX, 409.927.1800.  Free diagnosis.  Usually in one day and out the next.

They rebuilt my Cummins engine computer recently.  They fix Allison, Cummins, Detroit, Mack computers.  I delt with Frank.  But others are there.  Excellent customer service, easy to talk to.

Thanks Brett. We unplugged the gang connectors at the ECU but could not figure out how to disconnect the shiftpad. Still didn't start. Probably simply if you know how. LOL. Thanks for the contact info.
