Trash compactors

Do individuals enjoy their trash compactor? Ours was defunct when we bought it. Where would I get a replacement and would someone have an appropriate replacement specks model etc
 Thanks in advance

We use ours to put a trash bag in, convenient and out of the way. It still works but really ?

Or maybe consider replacing it with an ice maker?

We like our compactor. Don't put smelly fish (or smelly anything) or leaky stuff in it. That goes in a separate plastic bag and into the freezer till trash day or straight to the dumpster.

If you decide to replace your issue will be finding a 12" compactor the industry has moved to a 15" standard. Let us know if you find one.

Mine is an 89, but PO lost the key, went to washer specialties, a appliance parts house here in Wichita KS, and ask them if they had keys. Counter guy didn't look anything up on the computer, just disappeared into the parts racks and a few minutes later emerged with 2 keys. Do you like the silver or black key better? $7.50. compactor still works.

My compactor died, it was great when it worked.
As stated, Its about impossible to find a replacement 12" model. I think I remember finding one but the price was outrageous.
I removed mine,HUGE unexpected job. Bolted in from underneath the floor. I had to cut the compactor up with a hand grinder to get it out.
I replaced it with a drawer style garbage can drawer. I had thought of a wine cooler but decided the garbage storage to be more needed.

Don't have one, guess one of the PO's took it out. Don't miss it either.
This looks cool.

If you are non campground campers without a dumpster to take bags to everyday then the compactor is a help.  Remember these were rv's long ago.  Not park models and made to dry camp for extended periods.

Bob, it might have been an option as my coach and yours are very similar. I have drawers and a lower storage area in the place I think a trash compactor might have been installed.

We use ours and like it.  Better if you use proper compactor bags as they won't tear.

My trash compactor in my 95 is brand new. Never used. Like others I put a garbage bag in there and use it to hold trash.

Had a compactor in our sticks & bricks.  When it died, used it for a long time to hold our garbage bag, then finally replaced it with a wine cooler.  Much better use of the space, IMO.

Don't have one in our coach, but if we did, I am positive the DW would want it pulled out and replaced with a nice storage cabinet.

Across from the fridge I believe. Yes and the storage there is very good. I wouldn't trade it for a trash compactor. Far as boondocking, I would just take the full bags from the coach and move them down into a bay until I can put them in a dumpster somewhere. I would try to minimize packaging to keep the trash down.

Exactly what we do.  If we have a particularly smelly bag of trash, I hang it outside the coach, on one of the aluminum hooks below the windows, on the "street" side (far away from the entry door).  Keeps it off the ground so it doesn't attract ants, and keeps it out of (our) sight.  Sure, it might look kinda "trailer trashy", but if you're way out in the boonies, who else is gonna see it?
