Adios Microwave

Threw the microwave today. Very liberating. We never use it. I'm still considering a shelf and maybe a metal sheet or whatever. Waiting for inspiration. Anyhow, after removing the microwave I couldn't help but think about the Foretravel Sucks thread that was active awhile back, I counted the screws (Robertson, of course) that attached the mounting backplate. FORTY THREE! That's the thing about these rigs. If eight screws will do the job, they put in 43! That baby wasn't comin' down.

Anyhow, for anyone removing a Sharp 1850 bear in mind that there might be more than the usual two screws up front.  This one had four, two of which were really hiding. It also might have the long diagonal screws instead of the handles in the back. Couple of photos for future reference.

Took out the microwave?  That would do away with our version of "home cooked."

We have used ours on every trip so far. Even baked some pork chops using the convection function on our last trip. It worked great.

Don't get me wrong, we love convection ovens and have one that sits on the table across from the micro. I have a short DW and, quite honestly,  the unit we have is just too complicated for a old farm boy to handle!

There are a barrel full of buttons on that thing aren't there.
I used to work on nuclear missiles, so I've been around a lot of buttons. But at times I stand there and have to look the panel over before proceeding.

Different strokes for different folks, Tomorrow will be the 15th. day up here in the Sierra's. The microwave is on right now and has been use at least once everyday and some days several time. DW brews coffee every other day and reheats on alternate days. Days I get back from fishing too late to BBQ Marie Callenders frozen dinner time. Heat bran muffins 30 sec. Chicken pot pie 6 min. etc.

Ours is a daily use appliance. The convection oven half gets most of the use. We bake breads, pies and deserts. Defrost frozen stuff, reheat left overs.  Hard to imagine being without one.  We are also frequent grill users and use our induction cooker outside for all the stuff we don't want to cook inside.

I also use it. The convection feature means I can use it as a oven, and since we are a all electric coach, that is invaluable. One thing I don't like about the foretravel coaches is the small, not well equipped galley. Can't imagine not having some kind of oven.

Wjouldn't know what to do without the microwave/convection. Never had the convection part till buying the coach. When we were fulltiming the convection part was a great learning curve. Like Bob, we are all electric. Love it that way. Don't have to deal with/ have the pleasure of propane. It seemed like a 2 edge sword.

We replaced our failed microwave with a big convection toaster oven. DW doesn't care for what microwaves do to food. Besides now we can have rotisserie chicken!  LOL!

From Bob ... "One thing I don't like about the foretravel coaches is the small, not well equipped galley. "

In my many years on the Forum this is a complaint I don't think I have read.  Small and compact, yes, OK with us. The Samsung refrigerator changed it much for the better for us. Not well equipped? Drawers, cupboards, pantries were all empty when it left the factory. Well equipped is up to the user.

I think it was Don of Don and Tys who put in a steam oven in place of his MW/C oven.  What ever works for you is OK.

Whoa! Close, but no doobie. THAT is a British-made Neve console at Caribou Ranch Recording Studio in Colorado. Yes, analog, yes, Ampex MM-1000 24 trackers. Yup, those were the days; I'd never record in a digital studio; talk about 'old school'  ^.^d  Prolly the finest console ever made, the 'Olive' was installed at Caribou and was why I moved some of my clients there. Sadly, it did not withstand the 24/7 use that Caribou had.

Impressive.  Neve IS the standard, top of the line.  A friend of mine, Rafael Villafane, has a Trident A range in his home studio in Mexico City.  About on par with the Neve - best EQ on drums I've heard!  He's a co-founder of Royer ribbon mics, Baby-O's in LA and Bulldog Cafe...  Interesting fellow and great musician.

We use ours all the time. The only fault is our inverter that doesn't produce a true sine wave so the peaks are much lower making heating anything a longer process.

Our convection/ microwave seems to heat up the wood pretty warm. Doesn't it have to be vented to the outside? The vent fan is useless as it blows what ever it sucks up right into my face and back out into the coach. Maybe I am doing it wrong.

Our convection oven does the same venting into the coach. The wall next to the oven gets warm. We used it daily for 15 months with no ill effects that I can see. Helps heat in the winter, but a load on the AC in the summer.
