Special Considerations in Replacing Red Tops?

New Red Top start batteries have arrived.  Anything I should look out for in the replacing process?

Just make sure all connections are clean and tight, and don't over tighten the hold down.

Take the neutral off first and put back on last.

Use an electrically conductive grease on the connections, it doesn't take much, a thin film will do to keep moisture out and corrosion away.  A container will last a long time.  Corrosion-X seems to work well too.  Recheck the torque on the connections from time to time.

Redtop top studs torque spec is 14-20 NM.
124 - 168 in lbs
10.3 - 14.7 ft lbs

The Newton meters unit number 1.36 N-m converts to 1 ft lbf, one foot pound force.

Take the opportunity to clean up and paint the battery rack with anti-rust paint.

Take the old batteries to a proper recycling facility.

When you're done, sit back, have a cold one, and admire your excellent work.

Charge the batteries on a smart charger first.  Verifies condition and their future ability to take a full charge.

Let sit overnight.  Measure  voltage.  12.93-5 with no load if memory serves me.

Gives you a base for future measurements.  Write it on the battery? And date?
