Sate T Alert says to test weekly. They also say to replace the unit every five years. There is a 'end of life' alarm that can be re-set for up to thirty days. Mine went bad with only two years of service, but I'm not throwing it away or sending it back, YET! I'm now putting male & female disconnects (insulated 'spade lugs') on both the old (ha!) and new because I have a feeling I've screwed-up by not putting the vacuum to it often enough (weekly). One learns these things.
