Replacement of step flap

See the attached.  I saw this on a coach parked at Camp Foretravel.  I think it looks a lot better than the fabric cover. The material is fairly stiff and looks like a piece of outdoor carpet.  Has anyone else replaced the fabric with some other material?

John...  One could certainly pull it open an inch or two.  What do you store down there?

I had a similar idea...cut up a cheap entry door mat from Walmart.  Been in place going on 4 years, and still holding up well.

I find it is a good spot to temporarily hide little plastic bags full of Bella poop, until I get a chance to take them to a dumpster.

I'd be sure to use a material that didn't hold moisture....not rug material.

I too store wheel chocks under there. It's just the right size for those big heavy rubber ones. I use vinyl and three rubber bumpers to attach it. I took the nasty original one down to an upholstery shop and had them sew up a new one.

We bought a replacement flap from FOT right after we got the coach so can't speak to replacement except to say a material that doesn't hold water would be my preference.

We use the space behind the flap to store a cheap Harbor Freight brush to sweep off the steps in there. Amazing how much crap ends up on the steps.

Yes - nothing high tech - just sheet metal screws into the existing holes.  Later, I added a couple clear "rubber" bumpers to pad the step closing.

James.  Where did you come by the "Unicoach" step stuff.  Surely the original would be worn off by now.

Pretty sure the Unicoach non-skid on mine (jor) is original. On a couple of other rigs I've replaced the original with Foretravel non-skid that I bought from the now defunct Encore but those are no longer available. I had an extra but I gave it to someone last time I decided to get out of Foretravel world. Just like Al Pacino in The Godfather, they just keep pulling me back in!
