Newer Fluids/filters maintenance stuff than the 1992 numbers?

Hello again!
Question is we have the manuals for the Cummings 5.9 Turbo but the oil/antifreeze/etc. Is from 1992. Any better one now? It has been 27 years.Best oil? Filters?

You might ask Cummins. If you have Cummins part numbers from 1992 there should be cross-references to the new numbers if there has been any change since then.

I do have a email into them but I would like to hear from real world experience as well.

We still run Delo, as every owner has since new. The only fluid changes I know about are the switch to Allison "Transynd' and, for the CAT, a newer coolant.  ^.^d

For engine oil, there are two very good ones-- both available at Walmart, etc.

Shell Rotella T 15-40
Delo 400 15-40

Can't go wrong with either.

Recommend ELC (extended life coolant) for the cooling system.  There are several brands and I don't know if one is better than another.  With the ELC, you wont need the filter ass'y that adds chemical adjustment to the coolant, you just put in a blank element that I'm sure is available from any auto parts store.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

Here's what we use, I'd think there are other brands, like Fritz says:

Shell Rotella T 15-40 is what I use on the motorcycles now so thats good. I can use the Cat stuff in a Cummins engine? Stick with the Cummins oil/air filters? Anything new in the air dryer department?

Not sure what you mean by "Cat Stuff".

As far as air dryers, you can overhaul the one you have (though less $$ to buy a factory reman) or replace with a newer generation from the same company that is easier to service.  Verify that hose connections are the same.

Cummins publishes mil-specs for coolant.

I would be very surprised if they are any different from the specs at Caterpillar.

But,. to be safe, compare Cummins specs to those on the Cat coolant jug.

It was a hard question as every engine maker has their own formula for what they make the blocks out of and anti-freeze can corrode faster in some than others. Like Chrysler used more nickel in the cars sold in Canada/motorhomes and the 440 sixpack due to heat/cold.
